Why not. Let's not forget he's a baddie. He's already killed innocent people (the truck driver and the copper) and his brief is to assassinate someone who seems to want to do a good thing. I hope the barrel does blow up in his face.
It is a TV series, the killing is not real kid, it is in the world of make believe and generally good entertainment knowing that when the director said “cut” the truck driver and policemen got up and walked away.Mercdriver said:

Yes, it's what they do now. They buy the rights to an existing franchise or IP in the hope that fans of the original will automatically watch it. Then they add the DEI casting to appease non existent "modern audiences". Throw in the talentless mystery box writing, zero characterisation, mumbled dialogue, stone faced "acting", strong Mary Sue wammin "Who don't need no man" & mix in some key jangling "member berries" for the old fans. Then before it's even released, get their retaliation in first & accuse said fans of being sexist / waycist / gaycist if they don't like it.
It's a strategy that's working out really well for them.
That’s just the way of the modern world. You either watch it and accept the situation or don’t bother. The latter obviously causing Disney a few problems. It's a strategy that's working out really well for them.
In this case I watched all 5 and simply looked past the obvious.
Although they picked up some good original nods like the melon/rifle steady and the Alfa, they missed others like the conversation around type of explosive bullets.
It’s also a little bit too convenient for the security services how so many things suddenly went wrong for the anti-hero.

I hope it does not end with the barrel blowing up in his face, enjoying the programme so far hope it continues for another series, difficult to work out how it will end especially his relationship with his wife.
The limited number of shots before it goes bang, is a rather large and obvious Easter Egg type clue.Has anyone else been counting?

Locking the house plans away would have made sense.
The encounter with Bianca at Norman’s compound wasn’t particularly considered.
I'm enjoying it. The music, scenery and casting of Eddie Redmayne is very good. He's well suited and quite believable. It does seem setup for the female lead, who can kick all these hardened criminal blokes' backsides, to get the better of the professional assassin and triumph in the end. I hope I'm wrong and the bad guy gets away. I like to root for questionable characters. Probably a hangover from the Soprano's

I wasn't aware it was fiction, I thought it was a fly on the wall documentary, so thanks for the heads up. But even so, do you want the baddie to win. As a kid, did you cheer when the childcatcher appeared in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
Happy to point it out to you, yup, want the baddie to win, another series beckons.Never watched Chitty, juvenile film just not interested that and doctor who should be on cbbc
Enjoyed the first 5 episodes massively, gutted Sky are dropping the last 5 weekly.
It’s beautifully filmed in some great locations and is a clever updating of the original plot. Also, the many nods to the Edward Fox film (the Alfa, disguising the gun, his neckerchief, the water melon, explosive bullets, gun steady) and probably many others I missed.
I didn’t like how the desk based MI6 agent was also their in-house gun expert, a source handler, a snatch squad operative, etc. - even 007 (the male one
) didn’t do all of those roles! .
Have now started watching the Fox film again….
ETA: The water melon scene was a virtual facsimile of the original, location and actor apart - the face on the melon, the branch, a quick look behind, the knife to hold the bag, the pacing out and the rope to steady the barrel. Fantastic.
