I’ve watched this umpteen times-by far the best thing I’ve ever seen on the telly-I’m a big ww2 buff ,this must be the closest thing to actually being there.
Superb.

The whole thing was excellent though. It had me reading all the books from the same historian. Citizen Soldier etc.
Likewise. Also bought books by Major Dick Winters and David Webster (and Eugene Sledge re The Pacific). They are all worth a read (esp Dick Winters' book) and give a insight only a soldier who has experienced these events can give.

I've been meaning to visit Normandy and other important sights (I bought Major and Mrs Holt's Definitive Guide to D Day Normand Landing Beaches in preparation) but unfortunately to date it remains on my 'to do' list.
The foxholes in the woods outside Bastogne are still there. I went a couple of years ago. I also went to Foy which is the village they liberated afterwards taking cover behind hay bails. We even found the house that the German sniper was shooting from, bullet holes around the window he was firing from.

Webster’s book is very good as it was written much earlier than the other books and I believe he took notes throughout the war.

There’s quite a few books from the characters out there now, I’ve read babe and guarneres, don malarkeys, shifty powers and buck comptons who had a pretty interesting life post war too. There’s also a compilation one called ‘we who are alive and remain’

Need to rewatch all the extras for the box set too some fantastic insight to the men and the men who played them too. The real babe guanere sounded quite a man
Will check out the other books, thanks.

Will suggest to my wife we try this trip by the end of the year.

I've only just got round to watching this too. I found it so compelling I think I watched an episode each night.

How you can hold 'it' together in those circumstances is unimaginable... I can't even imagine how I'd react. Luck / Judgment... just getting through it.

I started re reading the book at the airport on the way home from holiday yesterday, and decided to watch the tv series today after reading each part that more or less covers each episode-it really is as true as can be-lots of little things in there that you wouldn’t necessarily notice
As I said before, the best ww2 thing ever.

Still can’t find much to criticise-apart from(pedants hat on here) there are quite a few instances of members of Easy Company firing a German mg 34......
I know that’s really sad that I noticed and in no way takes away any enjoyment from watching it-I’m just surprised they let that go,considering the rest of the attention to detail.
It’s still the best ww2 thing ever!

I didn't know ow any of thrm were still alive.

The last episode "points" where Dick is narrating everyone's lives really hit me when I first watched it as most of them were still alive. It felt like being transported form the past to being in touch with them.

Some years ago, I was on a ferry to France and got chatting to a group of elderly American gentlemen. It turned out they were the Band of Brothers veterans on a tour retracing their route through France and Germany in 1944/5. Very sad to learn they are all gone now.
