This may be a bit high brow for some here hehe

But watched "Cockneys v Zombies" over the weekend,it's not flash but it is bloody funny, great cast too, Richard briars, honor Blackman, Brick Top from Snatch and more.
il probably be watching this tonight.
Sky? DVD? Download? Where is it available?
Download in my case. It's not going to win any academy awards, but it is good entertainment if you leave your brain at the front door! Quite an appropriate soundtrack too.

watched wrath of the titans last night, not as good as the first but an enjoyable watch. 6/10

I watched Mean Streets again for the first time in about 20 years, then watched Raging Bull and Taxi Driver again - Robert De Niro was a friking genius, how he ever ended up appearing in Meet the Fockers 2 is beyond me, I don't know if it's him or the movie industry in general but it makes me think ill of the human race as a species.
+1

Such a disappointing career path he chose from his prime.

Gettysburg. A fairly lavish and straight recital of one of the bloodiest internecine conflicts of the modern historical era. For accuracy it does not stray from the common conceit that General Lee was a great tactician, but a lesser strategist (framed against WW2, think more Guderian than Von Manstein) and...fundamentally...on the wrong side. Slabs of time are given over to the layered relationships between Longstreet and his generals (Armistead and Pickett), with less of a hierarchical take on the Union side.

A four hour plus film, that whilst I wouldn't say is great, is most certainly an in-depth military period piece. A sub-theme that remains a constant surrounds the politics of the war that to many on the Confederate side was less about Slavery, more that the desire to secede from the Union as a principle, regardless of the catalyst, was the cause.

Sounds very intriguing. Probably includes some Knights Templar activity too. In addition the Vatican are always in reasonable proximity whenever getting in the details.

I think I'll put an order in at Amazon. Thank you.
Most likely. I feel I wanna reread it now, but it's packed away with my collection of books.

Stuff like meet the fockers etc shows what a great actor he really is.

Comedy with menace.

Skyfall

Very good Bond film. I'd perhaps been overestimating how good it would be (from early reports) and I was mildly disappointed relative to my high expectations as a result.

Some good links back to the story that we know and love (but with interesting twists), lots and lots of action, some good drama. Perhaps a touch long (2.5hrs) - there are some slower paced passages.

The ending is a reversal of the normal Bond denouement and there is an emotional crescendo to the film.

Was very dissapointed with mean streets when I watched it again recently. Not sure why, just got very bored, didn't hold my attention like I remembered it doing.

I also have come to the conclusion that Taxi driver is slightly over rated. Yes has some great scenes and the 'character' has interesting flaws but not great IMO.

Mow raging Bull is as close to a work of genius as you can get I think.

Lord Of War

I know it stars Nicholas Cage but I think it's a good film. The starting sequence showing the life of a bullet is one of my favourite film openings.

Well worth a watch.smile

One of my favourite films, funny and moving. Midnight Run. The pairing of Grodin and De Niro was one of the greatest in film history for me.
Up there with Hope Crosby, Bogart Bacall, Martin Candy etc.

I quite enjoyed this as well.

Cage is also good in Bad Lieutenant - Port of call New Orleans - and shows he can muster some rare acting skills as the prepared-to-bend-the-rules detective who is just as wily and dangerous as the drug dealers he's trying to catch. Cage's narcotics addicted detective seems to be seeking absolution for his sins throughout the movie even though he saves the life of drowning man at the beginning.. the metaphor's a bit obvious but directed by Werner Herzog this is a typical character led journey to somewhere else.

Latest batch...

White Men Can't Jump - 8.5/10 - It just never gets old, funny as fk.
Equilibrium - 6/10 - It's alright, nothing special, fight scene aren't as good as I remember.
Mean Girls 2 - 3/10 - Bad. Forced to watch.
Sinister - 5.5/10 - Not as good as I'd hoped it would be but still an OK watch for something to do. As usual little sh!ts in the cinema ruin it, last time I go there without an Uzi 9mm (well, until Superman is out obviously).

I've been watching lots of low budget indi. horrors lately with little to recommend but I did enjoy Asylum Blackout. The title completely describes the film so no surprises but well acted and one of those films I like to watch when I've got a bit of a hangover and am feeling vunerable.

I've recently read The Devils Butchers Shop about a Mexican prison riot in the 80s iirc and there were echos of this in Asylum Blackout.

Only a 5.3 on imbd which I generally find as a good guide for me with 6+ getting a look in my faroured genres but I'm glad I broke my rules as i'd give asylum blackout 6.3.

Funny old world: I like a stupid action film, but I thought Colombiana was absolutely wretched. Nonsensical, irksome, unappealing, unexciting, action-free balls.

Just watched 2 very good ones on a long-haul flight.

Crazy Stupid Love..8/10. Very amusing indeed. Really enjoyed it. A couple of slightly mawkish bits let it down slightly.

Deliver Us From Evil...8/10. Disturbing, harrowing and compelling documentary on child abuse in the Catholic church in the U.S

Right. I'm not giving away any more of the plot!

It is Awesome. A real film-and-a-half that more than makes up for QoS.

Craig and Bardem are brilliant. There's some twists, right to the end, to keep you interested. There's typical - and vintage - Bond action. The score is excellent, the direction excellent, casting excellent.

As a Bond film, it really hits the spot. As a film in the wider sense, it's great.

Don't hesitate! 9.5/10
