This definitely, but in that genre, two that are far apart, (as in when they were released),
“Red Badge of Courage”, 1951, and “Field of Lost Shoes.”, 2014.

Come & See for its portrayal of the German invasion of the Soviet Union in World War 2;to me it explains the bitterness & violence of the war on the eastern front which is perhaps only rivalled in the Pacific War between Japan & the USA,both being race wars IMO.

Heads up - Malta Story (1953) is on Talking Pictures (Freeview 81) today at 15:25

It might not be a great war film, but well worth watching IMO for the footage as SS Ohio comes in to port.

I was a Submariner; we used to watch those all the time when we popped out and about for a few weeks...

Maybe not the correct venue for this, but in strict contrast to all the true greats listed in here, I just watched American Sniper for the first time and was left wondering what all the fuss was about. Honestly, I've never been so mystified by how bad a supposedly must-see genre-defining movie is since... well, maybe since The Last Jedi laugh

I didn't even realise it was biographical, based on an actual person until the final credits. Mostly it just annoyed me... too bitty, too little of one thing or the other. No film will every do "training montage" better than Full Metal Jacket, no film will ever do "PTSD damage" better than Deer Hunter and none will ever do the inhumanity of war better than... well, lots. When I got to the end and twigged it was an actual bloke's life story I felt a little guilty for disliking him so much rolleyes

It needed to decide if it was about how hard the guy needed to work to integrate back into society or if it was about grunts on the ground in Warzone Hell, and trying to be all things all of the time it just completely failed at all of them. The lead was utterly wooden and uninvolving to the point where I couldn't care less about him, his family, or what a bad time they were having and half the time I couldn't even understand his thick, mumbly accent. I had to read the cast list to work out what his wife's name actually was. Terrible film, haven't felt so let down by an over-hyped turkey in ages

Not sure if they've been mentioned yet, and I'm equally unsure about their "must see" status, but a couple of more obscure films that are worth a watch (imho) are Murphy's War... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067458/ ...and The Long And The Short And The Tall... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054037/

Saw ‘T-34’ on a flight. Russian film about a tank. Similar to Fury. We need more Russian WWII films.

Good man.

You can't beat creaking hulls and busted nuts to put the sts up you as you sink deeper and the destroyer races overhead dropping tin cans into the water..

Tiefer..

The sinking scene in ISZ is great.
Nuclear reactor in the red and motors about to melt down all because of a little sabotage and epoxy glue in the drain valve wink

You'd probably like "White Tiger" then.

Although I suggest you find the subtitled Russian language version on Youtube, not the lame dubbed one.

The Good The Bad and The Ugly. Ok technically a western but set amongst the civil war. A highly rated classic.

And at the other end of the scale.....

Battle Beyond the Stars. War in space, less highly rated (but I liked it)

Cheers! Given the number of films from the US UK POV in WWII, there must be a lot of potential for Soviet POV films.

I wonder if anyone can help me find this movie which I saw partially when I was a kid, basically its about a train full of soldiers/naval ratings in I think the US main land in wild west/civil war era who are getting ambushed a few times red indians (i think) ,i think the soldiers/naval ratings were transporting something on that train (goods wagons)

I would like to watch it again as I could not complete it when was at that time due to homework but I have no clue about the name

I know this is a long long shot but just in case anyone remembers it

There was one about a ship escaping from the Chinese, with Steve McQueen as a naval rating. The Sand Pebbles.

There was one about a train in colonial India transporting something across the desert and was attacked by Indians. Northwest Frontier.
