I think it is...it's the turrets on the dam that were in view just as James talked about suspension stiffness and the VXR button. Then there's a shot as he drove over the bridge, of the A57, at the bottom of the Ladybower lake.

...and I have to say, our road signage is a darn sight better than everywhere else I've driven.
Is my memory playing up, or was there ever a "men at work" roadsign with a bloke with a pick-axe on it, instead of the "umbrella" one?

I think that was one of the best shows in the series, as it actually had some cars in it! More episodes like that and i will be happy! biggrin
I agree, I think that a lot of people are now used to them just messing about. When there is an episode that actually has car reviews, they don't like it. I felt that this episode was more of a return to Top Gear of old....

Yep, it was the Snake Pass where James May tested the Insignia VXR. Well at least some of it was.

So you could be both right, some of the roads I didn't recognise.

Lovely Road, and a nice car aswell.

I think I prefer the usual stupidity and pointlessness.

Insignia, X6, Lexus thing. Not interested and never will be.

Makes me appreciate the humour and I will now stop complaining about the sillyness!

I think that they came up with a very good point within the VXR piece -

If we did have to redesign the whole of the UK road signage system these days, you cant imagine it done without a team of hundreds and costing about £400 million. To think that five people did it, you just cant see it, can you?

And they call it progress!

Yes - although a nice Stack tacho would be good ,I would probably rather have some fancy computer graphics like the LF-A! Looked very flash! Wonder how long before all cars have displays like that instead of analogue! Not too long, I reckon.

They really have lost their way haven't they? The programme does nothing for those with an interest in cars, and at a time where our interests are so under threat (from political agendas based on bad science), I very much doubt Clarkson et al do our kind any favours. I would be surprised to see the programme back in the same form, if at all.

I realised long ago when my MG had a digital dash over a quarter of a century ago that there should always be a place for the analogue tachometer and speedometers. That was when my old MGB had a twin needle combined oil pressure and coolant temperature gauge. NEVER needed to look directly at it thus taking my eyes of the road, in my peripheral vision if I could 'sense' that the 'shape' of the twin needles approximated to ten past six on the dial, then I need not take my eyes off the Motorway at speed, often in excess of three figures ~ legal back then in the former green and pleasant.

Same with a circular Speedometer and Tachometer ~ the "shape" of the needle positions should be all you needed to see through the 'corner' of your eye...

That Roadsign designer made the same point regaring the use of both upper and lower case on road signs. Place names have a definite 'shape' ~ the Sh and two Fs in Sheffield has a distinctive shape ~ as do most other place names in those font style combinations....

The look that Clarkson gave to Hammond at the end when he said "We'll be back sometime this year" seemed a bit doubtful.

Lexus - Good. Sin City graphics Good. Like the little booster flames from the exhaust
News - Started Ok. But come on I think many people spotted the inevitable Hammond crash coming long before it did
X6 - Good
Guest - Dunno who he was. Another blues musician. To my ears "might change the car next series" sounds like "might drop this section" Ever hopeful
VXR - Started good. But be under no illusion that woman HATED James and it just started to feel a bit weak towards the end. Mad cat though biggrin
Awards - Panamera good. Rest too obviously filling!

havent they done the "We've run out of money for the last episode" gag before. Series 2 or 3 maybe?

Overall 7/10

But you watched it anyway , like you do every week.

I think songs of praise is st , hence why I've only ever seen about 30 seconds of it

The look was probably like all of the other looks when dates were being discussed in the program - because of the long running "owned up skit" in the show that it is actually being recorded in 2010, but was in fact recorded on Dec 9th 2009.

I thought it was an excellent touch, hopefully it marks where future shows may be heading.

Good episode. Liked the X6 section. Showed what a balls up of a car BMW have made.
