Mugabe on his way out?

The Zimbabwean army seemed to have handled this quite well - in terms of coups through history this must rank as one of the best in terms of damage done to the country or lives lost.
Is it a coup when the deputy takes over?... or is it a transition of power?Coup: "a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government"
It wasn't violent. Sudden, yes. Illegal? Not sure. I don't hear a lot of supporting countries saying that it is illegal.

They really have, that's been one of the most impressive things I think. There's been no rioting, no violence, it's refreshing. There have been some deaths apparently, which haven't been reported on like the rest of the situation, and are mainly from the initial night when the army began to take control/arrest people.
The whole point of this is that Mugabe is a relic living in the past.
There was no violence as the military are in bed with the ruling party.
They need a fresher face in charge so that the real job of the Chinese sidling up to and fleecing Zim, can continue unabated.
Hope I'm wrong, but it's not a good situation for anyone.

Apparently we're drinking the expensive wine tonight. The other half is Zimbabwean so wants to celebrate
In all seriousness though, there's so much apprehension about what's going to happen now, just because he's gone, doesn't mean it's going to get better, the ruling party is still there, only time will tell.
The chances are they will just end up with another dictator, probably one of Mugabe's henchmen, Africa just doesn't do democracy. We won't get fooled again.
Only, you will.
I wonder if they'll change the name and/or flag. I've had this theory regarding African states, the longer the name, the more politically unstable it has become. I mean, if it remains Zimbabwe, then fair enough. Republic of Zimbabwe, starting to look dodgy. The rot sets in if it becomes the people's republic of Zimbabwe.
If it gets renamed to "The African People's Democratic Republic of Zimbabwe" and change the flag to incorporate a fist of freedom punching the air, then frankly all is lost.

I guess he will want international support, no travel bans on him, investment opened up... he would want to create the next safe 20 years for him as president? I don't think its a matter of who the people choose but the fact no matter who they choose they always seem to turn out the same. Mugabe seemed like a OK guy at first. Corruption seems to be culturally embedded within African and shows no sign of weakening.
They've got to spend all the foreign aid, I mean investment, somehow.Cobnapint said:
