Is this why Murdoch Jr. jumped, I wonder?

"The broadcaster revealed it hacked emails belonging to John Darwin - who faked his own death in a canoe - and his wife Anne.

It also said that it accessed the email accounts of a suspected paedophile and his wife.

Sky News said the action was in the public interest and amounted to "responsible journalism".

...

"We stand by these actions as editorially justified and in the public interest."

Nice to see that they consider their illegal hackings "responsible". NI really is rotten to the core.

I think this is going to make the "Fit and Proper" investigation that Ofcom is getting into a little bit more interesting. Now that Sky itself is implicated in the hacking there is actually a possibility their license could get revoked...

Odd to think that this story will pass by and even those who might be asked to express and opinion won't care too much. But I'd say the same people are currently moaning for all their worth about the GCHQ having the ability to read email.

Excellent, does that mean groups like anonymous and wikileaks are now off the hook exposing our and US government corruption. Thats in the public interest too. Oh no, I forgot the powers that be have the national security/terrorist "get out of jail free" card to use don't they.

Cannot believe it is illegal to ring a mobile, press # and then 0000.

How ridiculous.

If I fish your post off your door mat and read it would that be OK?

Bizarrely both posts make a good point.

Doing that by accident - not illegal. Doing it deliberately with the aim of taking something that you shouldn't have - illegal. It's all about the Mens Rea.

Exactly - just because something unlawful is easy to do does not magically make it lawful.

Absolutely - I was jesting.

It isn't much different to someone entering your unlocked car - the fact that it is unlocked or open makes no difference.

What I really don't get, is what actionable harm was suffered by the various celebs who have been paid off.

That's not a valid point either.

Breaking or entering something you should not have broken into or entered is the crime. What happened AFTER the breaking and/or entering is just a further crime.

The celebs, not so much - they got plenty of publicity. Ordinary members of the public are more of a concern.

You missed it the other day when the PH'er went absolutely ballistic that I posted a link to his Twitter account and business website and made all sorts of threats towards me. hehe

does this affect the Darwins wife's conviction? Illegally obtained evidence 'pivitol' to her conviction etc?

the way there going on about this story makes me think...

you can do anything if its in the public intrest....

thats all they keep saying, is the media now a vigilante group?

I would like to slash the tyres of uninsured drivers as its in the public intrest.

ROFL, maybe a comeback for BBC F1 coverage yet!

While a devilish ph plot to get F1 back on BBC1, very worst case scenario, fit and proper test failure the murdoxh's had to sell their 49% stake, there'd be a queue of people ready to buy the cash cow, Sky is not going anywhere, Murdoch control of it, or the News Corp holding co. on the other hand.... It will all be sorted out or not by the US gov or Rupe's shareholders.
