"Cabinet minister Andrew Mitchell has been threatened with arrest and apologised after an explicit rant at armed police officers who stopped him riding his bicycle out of Downing Street.

His outburst appears to have been prompted by the armed officers' refusal to open the gates in Downing Street to let him cycle through.

A source told the newspaper Mr Mitchell said: “Open this gate, I’m the Chief Whip. I’m telling you - I’m the Chief Whip and I’m coming through these gates.”

The officers declined to do as instructed, and warned him he would be arrested under the Public Order Act if he persisted.
He then began pushing his bike, before telling a PC: “Best you learn your f------ place. You don’t run this f------- government.
“You’re f------- plebs.”

Nice chap.

When he was Tory home-affairs spokesman Andrew Mitchell once said: "We need more respect and more police on the streets."

Whats the point of having armed police if they aren't allowed to shot people when they feel like it.

If the police were allowed to shot people that annoyed them this would be a better place.

Yes but surely you know that the rules only apply to the plebs...

I'm sure he'd be an ignorant bum whoever he represented

Shame it has to be Sutton C, but shoring him up for a couple of years with the "Overseas Aid is vital" ticket has not helped

I dislike the guy

And most other politician oiks of all the main parties, they all suffer greatly from memememeness

Indeed. I don't know what it is about bicycles

As soon as people get on a bike, and someone gets in their way, they turn into absolute wheynkers. hehe

Strange - the article suggests it was just one guy.

Were the whole party trying to cycle out of there at once?

If so, no wonder tempers were frayed.

You’d never get this sort of thing with a labour Government; their chauffeurs are far too polite.

After all the "hatehatehaters" have finished their little rants, this surely is the real question.

The "dear old friendly coppers" guarding the most hallowed street in all the land certainly knew Mitchell, he's been going in and out of there for two and a half years.

I suspect they were playing power games, 'cos they can!

Doesn't mean he can rant at them, has bugger all to do with whether two police officers were shot anywhere either, but there are enough sides to this one for it to run and run.

'til the next actual Guvvmint business the left want to kick off over, going to be Universal Benefits isn't it?
