It's certainly much easier to get in trouble for what you write on the internet. The old excuse of 'it's only the internet, none of it is real' is long gone. I wonder how many people have gotten in trouble for what they have typed on here, this site's full of personal abuse and offensive comments aimed at individuals.hehe

Yet another waste of court time. I agree with Sir Salman Rushdie on issues like this:

"Nobody has the right to not be offended. That right doesn't exist in any declaration I have ever read. If you are offended it is your problem, and frankly lots of things offend lots of people"

I'm offended by Justin Beiber and yet they put him on tele. Some one should definatly go to prison for that.

The Vid on "Look North" showed him leaving in an RX-7 and I agree with Rushdie.

That's just your view though. The Judge decided that he avoided jail because he didn't specify and target one individual, not because he is a muslim as the thread is titled.
Actually my view is that I was offended by it but that he has the right to say it without it being criminal.

However regardless of my view he should be jailed, in the same way that the other chap was. The statute does not identify that a specific name or individual must be identified for the offence to be committed.

So you write about the girl going missing you get 12 weeks locked away.
You write about robbing your local McDonalds during the riots you get locked away.
You write about wanting British soldiers to die and burn in hell and you get ......fk all.
http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/at-a-glance/ma...

Even turning up to court not in a suit and showing no remorse you don't even get locked up. I wonder why the judge did this ...oh wait it's because he is a Muslim and we can't offend them can we. I mean we sure as fk can't deport them in less than 5 years.

He wasn't even commenting about some distant events - these were local lads that died - hugely upsetting to the local community, unfortunately it didn't upset the 'right' community.

If I wrote about wanting Pakistani's to burn in hell you could guarantee they would be burning flags quicker than you could say 'modern Britain'. The whole situation is fked up. And examples like this were people get treated differently just fuels all the EDL dheads.

And the even got a police escort leaving the court. Hope they checked the tax and insurance on the datsun that picked him up!

Morning rant over now I'm going to get some coffee.

Well yeah, because that would be racist.

He was expressing an opinion, one I don't agree with, about soliders in general. That is something I have no problems with.

Just picking up on something fella. A comparable analogy would be if you suggested all Pakistani soldiers should die or burn in hell. I doubt you'd get much flag burning or attention for that comment. Saying that though, the comments he made were so insensitive and out of order that he really needs a good slap.
Or stated Taliban fighters should die or burn in hell. I'm sure social media is full of statements like that. You certainly wouldn't expect to go to prison for stating it.
A comparable analogy wouldn't even be those two though, because they are covered by his initial statement of all soldiers should burn in hell.

For something to compare to what he said, it would have to be something about another profession, something like you saying, all engineers should burn in hell.

Surely a comparable analogy would be to say all Pakistani soldiers should die while in Pakistan no?

Could he not be prosecuted under "inciting racial hatred"?
It certainly isn't doing any favours for the public image of Muslims in this country.

He didn't say "British soldiers" he said "soliders" although it was implied.

The worst part about all of this was when a picture of him walking to/from court was posted on facebook with the caption "Keep your head up high brother" by one of his friends. It had about 47 likes within a few minutes.

That saddened me.

Right decision IMO

Not targetted at an individual.

There are plenty of people saying "all rapists should be killed and burn in hell". No issue with that, whether or not you agree of disagree.

Saying "this person should be killed and burn in hell" is targetted.

Just another pathetic campaign to create division in the community.

All this stuff is just scaremongering to try and keep places like 4chan in their place. Nothing more nothing less.

I would take absolutely no notice of this.

I agree.

But the guy who told a very poor taste sick joke should not have been gaoled either IMO.

I agree with that.

We all should have the right to offend and also be offended.

"free speech for everyone"? You are the OP of this thread, right?

Have a think again about Rushdie's point.
