Your confusion of "your" for "you're" in the thread title offends me. As you've committed this outrage on the internet I demand that you get 240 hours of community service or go to prison, depending on the whim of the courts.

There are a couple of things that aren't mentioned in the original article posted (at least they didn't jump out at me when I scanned it):-

- There was more to his initial comment that what is being reported. He passed a comment on civilians who had been killed by soldiers and that no one was doing anything about it. He then threw in his controversial, and stupid, comment.

- The original police spokesman involved in the case acknowledged that effectively the guy was being tried because he didnt present the argument he was trying to make in a sensible manner. This to me is more of a news story as it shows that the police/CPS were well aware of the true intent of his posting, but pushed ahead with prosecuting anyway.

The guy is clearly a clown, but he does not deserve jail. Part of me thinks that the penalty that he got was too harsh. This case should never have made it to the courts. As for the guy jailed for his Facebook joke and the ridiculous anti police t-shirt story: absolute nonsense. A complete waste of the courts time and a waste of space in the prison system.

The fact of the matter is that some people don't see soldiers as heros, and some people do. As is life, people will have differing opinions on the validity of the soldier profession.

Some people will see them as vital and a line of defense against enemies trying to approach on our freedoms (Heh..) and way of life. Other will see them as state sponsored murderers.

Given the differing view points it's quite natural that someone who sees them as state sponsored murderers would want them to go to hell.

I wrote to my MP and 3 Lords about the recent arrests and convictions of both Matthew Woods and Azhar Ahmed to tell them how I felt about our tax payers money being wasted on such nonsensical tripe. I also pointed out that freedom of speech is absolutely required if you want a true democracy and that when you start censoring your own peoples speech you lose the right to criticise other countries. Particularly Russia.

I do not see this as Azhar Ahmed getting off with a light sentence at all. I see this as Azhar Ahmed getting punished for something he should never have been punished for, and Matthew Woods getting another insane punishment.

I'm not convinced that our current legal system which is somewhat of a patchwork quilt of law is no longer working for us the people. I think it's time we create a proper constitution of the UK.

I'm not sure why we've gone this long without one.

Yeay, the Op just isn't being himself, just not being natural, he should let his true feelings be felt, instead of stifling them.

I could be a whole lot better without trying

Try posting the same message as the scrote in question, but change the word soldier for muslim.

An equally vague, non-race defined group. Your court imposed punishment WILL differ.

Neither should result in jail, or any form of punishment for that matter, but the reality is that the statements are not comparable. A soldier is not a race or a specific religious group and as a result is not covered by the same protection 'Muslim' or 'Christian' or 'Black'.

As an aside, do you have any links to stories to support your claim? It is something I hear often but I've never seen any evidence to show that the courts treat Muslims differently.

I personally would have given him jailtime. But then again i'm not a judge, or have any legal experience.

What stupid, irresponsible comments (him, not posts on PH).
Why? Because he held a view not shared by you? His view isn't shared by me, either, but I'll fight to my last breath for his right to express his opinion freely. Otherwise, frankly, what differs us from the Taliban?

More seriously, this is life, not the primary school yard. If somebody says something we don't like, when did we all start calling for 'teacher' (or plod in this case)? Who determines what is OK and what is not OK to say? To think?

I'm truly saddened that our brave young men and women are fighting in Afghanistan when at home the basic freedoms we thought had been won over many years have, in fact, already been lost. Very sad.

Top post. No one should be put on trial for saying things you don't agree with.
I remember being taught as a kid that sticks and stones my break my bones but words will never hurt me. What happened to that?
At what point as a society did we start feeling that it's not ok to be offended. Nothing happens when you're offended by something. A kitten isn't stomped on and you're not kicked in the bks.
No one has the right to not be offended, imo.
