Perhaps she thought what she was about to tell him might be better done in a public place which is even more worrying.

Even sadder that it's splashed all over the newspapers.
I take a contrary stance here - having it out in the open like this may well prompt her to leave him or for him to get help. There's also ample evidence for the police now should the victim wish to make a complaint.
The notoriety may possibly be seen as a positive by Max Clifford types but it could just as easily add to the emotional hurt on top of anything physical. In terms of evidence the police seem to require remarkably little in cases like this, for good or ill. One police force had - and may still have - a policy of arrest and charge then let the Court decide, purely on the basis of a victim's allegation. Certainly those images should help if any Court is ever asked to decide.

Amazing someone would take that picture and not intervene
Let's assume you'd been there; what exactly would you have done?
Kicked the fking s chair out from under him. Zero tolerance. No matter what she's done, unless you're being physically attacked you do NOT put your hands on a woman.

fking oily .
Problem is, she will end up on the receiving end. If he takes a hiding, he will take it out on her in the home/private.

There are two sides to every story, we cannot judge fairly until we know the facts.
Of course whatever the truth is ,he has not done himself any favours by grabbing hold of her in public.

Maybe she 'walked into his hand'?

This was an excuse used by our housekeeper. He seemed like a nice enough chap but once during a random conversation he mentioned issues with the police/gf. On further questioning, he was down for an assault charge, allegedly strangling his gf - he stated "it wasn't like that, she walked into my hands".

We once walked in on this chap shooting squirrels with an airgun out of our kitchen window. After that, it became quickly apparent that his services were no longer required.

Absolutely. Scum, the lot of them.

Disgrace that activity can go on like that, blatantly, and whilst there's at least one person willing to take photos of the whole thing, no one stepped in and pointed out the error of his ways.

As for the restaurant, he'd should have been kicked out and barred.
This

Although i have done it twice and both times the women turned on me.
And that's the problem - a bloke that I used to work with once tried to intervene in a domestic and got a bottle smashed over his head for his troubles. By the woman that he was trying to help.

Never step in the middle of something like that.
My experience has been similar with both parties turning on the Good Samaritan.

My father in law shoots squirrels and pigeons from his bedroom window.... In his pyjamas. If he wings them, his wife pops out and finishes them off with a broom handle...

He would. Ex-sniper. Unless your squirrel has wings like a shield of steel.

An ex sniper? Who only wings squirrels and pigeons in his back yard?

Much like the wings of steel reference and the existence of super squirrels - the sniper bit was a joke.

He is quite old and not a bad shot since I calibrated his scope, which was shooting about 1ft to the left at 30 ft.... And wasn't actually attached to the rifle - was sliding up and down the grooves...

Sometimes taking pics is very helpful. If somebody had just stopped it that would ave been the end of it and would have probably done it again.

This pic has outed him as a nasty bd.
Agree 100%. Public humiliation for what he done is the best punishment.
