Call me paranoid if you wish but it's almost as if there is a pattern emerging.

No idea why. Waste management entrepreneurs always seem such honset, upright citizens.

Nicely timed so they can blame the fires on stray fireworks ? IIRC the last big one was blamed on a sky lantern that looked in CCTV more like a bundle of burning rags thrown from outside the fence.

There's something wrong here. Just having a look at the BBC site,

22 Aug 2013 - Fire at the recycling transfer centre in Worksop
1 day ago - The Vale of Glamorgan
21 Aug 2013 - The blaze started at about 21:00 BST on Tuesday at the recycling centre in Bredbury in Stockport
16 Jun 2013 - Fire crews are tackling a large blaze at a plastics and paper recycling centre in Worcestershire
21 May 2013 - Seventy firefighters tackle a fire at a cooking oil recycling centre in Worcestershire.
1 May 2013 - Firefighters are dealing with a large fire at a Warwickshire recycling plant that
5 Aug 2013 - Another fire, caused by spontaneous combustion, broke out at Lawrence Recycling in Kidderminster
27 Dec 2012 - Up to 60 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a recycling centre in Clackmannanshire.
7 Jul 2013 - Smoke billows over Sittingbourne from a fire at an electrical recycling centre

Then I saw this. 58 fires in 2012!

What the hell is going on?

That's because there's someone there to put out the fires when an empty Coke bottle bursts into flames.

Also funny how seldom empty bags and bottles catch fire in factories and warehouses that actually sell them as compared with those that pick up a subsidy for "recycling" them.

There are two other associated sides to this story.

One is that there are a lot of industrial landlords being left with un-sorted and unporocessablr piles of waste by unscrupulous waste managment firms who do a moonlight flit.

The second story is that the EA is cracking down on illegal waste sites and I think it is this which is behind some of the fires and abandonments. Presumably, the owners of these businesses can hide what was going on by arson or to a lesser degree by quitting premises, if they beleive the EA may be on to them.

18 Apr 2013 - 45 firefighters remain at the scene of a fire at Birmingham's last paper mill that started on Wednesday night. Around 9,000 tonnes of cardboard caught fire at the Smurfit-Kappa paper mill in Nechells on Wednesday. Crews remain at the site as the fire continues to smoulder.

If you ask me, the whole green game has been well and truly hijacked by the crooks and the shysters and those who like to peddle religion and tell us how to live. I actually feel sorry for the proper environmentalists who do care about the planet and get caught up in all this and tarred with the same brush.

I don't believe for a second all these fires have been accidental. No way.

not just that, they are paid to dispose of XYZ, that costs money to actually do, so you heap it all up, collect the money, then strike a light, heap gone.
