The 'celebrity' Katie Hopkins is apparently being investigated for racist tweets after making comments about the Scottish Ebola patient.

I'm a bit surprised because whilst her comments seemed unfunny, puerile, idiotic and ill judged, I thought they were less than criminal. Is the level required for racial offence that low?

Racist? The Scots are a different race?

(That could be construed as rhetorical...).

If this goes anywhere, the police must be stuck for real work.

There's a filtering system and discretion, allegedly.

Whilst this is true things are different these days. Apparently there is no freedom of speech if what you say is deemed offensive.

I say fking offensive things all the time. I'll end up in trouble one of these days...

Sure, but...

People complaining about nonsense and wasting police time is arguably more offensive but people so easily offended should seek treatment and meanwhile be ignored.

Utter waste of time.

"More than 11,000 people have signed an online petition on the change.org website for Hopkins to be charged over the "racist tweets" regarding Scotland."

Is it just me but I always end up thinking less about the people who use the word racist, and more into wishing they would invest in a dictionary.

I really hope she is prosecuted, but that is more about my belief in her being a vile bh!

I assume therefore that the crime rate in Scotland must be 0% if plod are investigating someone I've never heard of jokes ?

When "Being a vile bh" is classified an offence there's more than a few going to be led away in irons.

I think we can schedule that for shortly after hell freezes over, sadly...

How many threads do we need on this?

I think this is the fourth or fifth.... and they are not that hard to find.

She's also been reported to the police for another 'hate crime'. This time against fatties!!

independent said:
The former Apprentice contestant Katie Hopkins has annoyed a lot of people in her time on social media – but it seems she may have now gone too far after she was apparently reported to the police for committing a “hate crime” against an overweight woman.

In an incident recorded for a new TV programme about her own weight loss, Hopkins stages a panel discussion with five people who, it is claimed, represent the interests of those with weight issues.

Hopkins has previously said that all “fat people are lazy”, and in an openly insulting exchange told campaigner Kathryn Szrodecki that “it is not healthy to carry that much weight on your knees”.

According to Mail Online, a video preview for the TLC programme shows Ms Szrodecki saying “this is actually to do with a hate crime”, to which Hopkins responds “Do call the police, there’s a telephone right there. Would you like it brought to you? Because it’s probably going to be hard to walk there.”

Ms Szrodecki is later shown speaking on the phone, reportedly to the police, saying she would like to report Hopkins’ “personally offensive” behaviour.

Maybe it's that so many people say offensive things on Twitter that occassionally when there's a high profile incident like this the police investigate to make an example as they can't deal with everyone?

The Police have got lots of better things to do. Unfortunately, between all the 'outraged' people ringing up to complain about Twitter, Facebook, mobile phone credit and other crap, they don't actually get time to do it.

Any chance of putting a link to the one about her Ebola tweets? I had a look, couldn't see anything recent and the news article is dated today. Still, if it's offended you I'll apologise before you call the Police biggrin

Selective policing again.

It's a waste of everyone's time.

Selective policing would be to ignore the multiple complaints they've had without going through the formal processes they have to finalise an incident when it's called in.

It's not like they've gone looking for it, is it?

What a thoughtless, tactless and careless thing to say.
What does she gain from this? Not sure it's a criminal matter though, let the twitter mob deal with her?

Honestly, you don't think that during the recent referendum there was enough st being slung by both sides for the courts to be full if, as Det Insp Glyn Roberts, of Police Scotland says:

"Police Scotland will thoroughly investigate any reports of offensive or criminal behaviour online and anyone found to be responsible will be robustly dealt with."

Maybe I'm just cynical and I'll admit to not knowing how much choice the Police have if someone really has nothing better to do than involve them over this, but I suspect that there's some selectiveness in which are looked into and which aren't.
