Didn't Polly Toinby (sp)! of The Guardian once write an article for that paper that suggested that a Tory policy equated to 'The Final Solution?

AFAIAA she still writes for that paper and makes endless appearances on BBC news and current affairs stuff.

No. It's just hard to believe that someone with a track record of rampant sensationalism/racism/nationalism like her, who is framed as being a 'journalist' and courts the public eye, could have 'accidentally' chosen her words so badly.

perhaps she should have said to invite them round for tea and biscuits, maybe that would have satisfied the ttterati

yes,the holocaust was such a terrible act in history that maybe she meant that any would be suicide bomber willing to do what we have seen recently was only fit for being treated in such a way.or is it a matter of semantics where as the holocaust has always been known as 'the final solution' being historic it cannot be changed as it has happened whereas 'a final solution' is probably said everyday for one situation or another.
Isn't that anti-semantic? wobble

From what I saw of it the person who got upset and got the police involved was one of the 'professionally offended' who hangs on the every word of people they don't like, searching for something they can use to trip them up.

It may have been poorly phrased but I don't believe there was any real intent.

Personally if I think someone spouts st I don't spend my days reading their output and getting all outraged about it, I just ignore them.

Disappointed she is going and loved her show. Last weeks one re grooming gangs and an interview with a victim of same was exceptional.

All James O'Brian needs to do is get Farage gone and LBC, bar Ferrari and perhaps ID, could change its name to Leftie Broadcasting Corporation.

I think JOB should have lost his job for the 'Nick' scenario, but his apology as far as I can remember amounted to admitting he was 'nieve'. Also, his phone in show amounts to monstering people who are daft enough to ring in with an opinion counter to his own.

He has mentioned a few times lately that he is expecting a Daily Mail hatchet job and I personally think it is no less than is deserved.

But it's not the term "final Solution" that's the problem. It's how/why/where you say it that matters. That's why nobody is coming round to arrest us for saying "final solution".

I'm not 'having a go' at you personally at all, but that is what causes half the problem with people's attitudes and thinking today.
Not just the world wars, but Soviet Russia, Communist China, the Spanish civil war.
Little if any of these 20th century events and their underlying causes have been taught to any degree to the majority of school leavers.

There would be far fewer people on the 'far right' if they understood properly what that has lead to in the past, and equally so, far fewer on the 'far left'.
Different ideologies, similar body counts.

My grandfathers never discussed their roles in the world wars either, and my father was, thankfully, just slightly too young for the second one.

While I would not necessarily assume that the uneducated Hopkins would be making a direct reference to the Nazi 'final solution' as an actual solution, I find the statement jarring.

Katie Hopkins has regularly portrayed herself as a friend of Israel - if that's in any way her true opinion and not just a press angle, then she would have been extremely aware of the meaning of those two words..

I can't stand the bint, but she wasn't calling for a final solution re Muslims in general, but Islamic terrorists in particular. That would be my understanding of her tweet.

And if so, what's the problem? She's calling for the extermination of Islamic terrorists, which as they are, to use another controversial Nazi reference, vermin, then so what?

Anyone got an issue with wiping IS and their ilk off the face of the planet?

Vile individual with awful opinions for cash.

The clip of her on This Morning, where she criticised people naming their children after places even though her own child is called India, just about sums her up. Idiot.

Given her propensity to label random Muslims as terrorists I have zero sympathies. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Target audience; simple, ill-educated bigots.

I used the word 'similar' for simplicity sake alone smile
Counting the deaths brought about by Soviet policy causes much upset and dispute these days.
The estimated body count from further east dare not be mentioned, as it likely makes the other two appear as amateurs.
In any case, the last two are much played down these days, presumably for the sake of international relations.

A reliable source from the '70s was using numbers in the order of 40-60 million and 60-80 million respectively.
I suppose it's easier to hit those kinds of numbers with a 'captive audience' than to go on expeditions abroad for candidates.

She did. However a Guardian journo is less likely to be targeted by the professionally offended brigade than Hopkins. That was also in 2010 so extreme left fascism wasn't as prevalent.

That's my concern. Elements of the extreme left do not understand that the way to deal with idiots is to discusss, educate and reason; not isolate and force them out of society. That leads to exactly the rise in far right anger that is becoming more evident. On theme, it is fascism but the extreme left can't see it as they think they have the moral high ground.

That's much more concerning to me than a known provocateur making a stupid comment on twitter.
