I've already written a little bit about this car in my car history thread but figured a separate thread might be a better way to keep track of everything. It's almost 1am here in Denmark, I can't sleep and I'm on a painfully slow Internet connection so fingers crossed this uploads properly hehe

Bit of background first I guess. My previous car was an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, 2007 model so it was the 4.3l engine but with the better seats. I loved that car, it was special. I'd park it up and look back at it every time. The engine sounded great, it was faster than any other car I'd previously owned and it felt great to drive. It wasn't flawless though and with rust appearing around the driver's door and roof, it was becoming too expensive to run.

During the ownership of the Aston Martin I'd bought a Citroën C1 as a practical little run about and also to help the girlfriend learn to drive. This meant that I could go for a car less practical than the Vantage.

So off I set in my quest for a Lotus Evora S. And I was let down. To drive it was a hoot, despite a somewhat sloppy gear change. The issues I had were with the interior. The audio system was awful to use, it felt plasticy for a £37k car and there were little details or niggles that meant it fell short of my expectations. So the search for a sportscar continued...and ended when I drove this particular XJ SS.

I'd actually driven one a few months previously and enjoyed it but it hadn't been looked after and a comical part exchange offer soured the deal. This one, at a local Peugeot garage, was in better condition at a lower price and I received a far better offer on the Aston. Would've been silly not to change the car really.

So now I've had the Jaguar 2 weeks or so. With a supercharged V8 that does the business in the XFR and XKR under the bonnet, massage seats and a plethora of other gadgets no 25 year old really needs, I'm fast falling in love with it. It is a brilliant car.

Overtaking is effortless, especially in manual and dynamic mode whereby you can make full use of the engine. Traction (in the dry at least) has not been an issue, though I've yet to try turning the t/c off. Maybe when I'm back from work. The interior is very special indeed. Real carbon fibre surrounds the black leather on the dash and doors, purple fuzz lines the glovebox and other cubby holes and little touches like the gear selector popping up on startup just add to the feeling that this car had a lot of thought put into it.

Problems so far are limited to my idiocy in catching a wheel at a drive thru and my unwillingness to read manual, though I'm slowly figuring out the entertainment system.

Unfortunately the Internet is too slow to upload photos, I'll try tomorrow afternoon to get some up.

To summarise: it's big, fking quick and luxurious.

Phwoar. Lovely.

Would it be rude to ask how much it cost?

I have to say that I don't think I have ever read of someone looking at a Lotus and ending up with a big luxury Jag, but fair play to you as you have made a superb choice.

I used to own a 2004 XJR and to be frank it was one of the best cars I've ever had and I've had a few. The interior was just amazing, a lovely place to be.

Your XJ is another league ahead of that car in terms of technology and design and I will have one one day for sure.

Excellent choice, enjoy it and post some more pics when you can.

I'll be honest when I say I had no real idea what car I wanted. Everything from Caterhams to Bentleys were considered.

Always liked the older XJR too, very cool cars.

Here's some more photos, mostly from the advert

My brother has a short wheelbase Supersport. It really is bonkers-fast for a large saloon car. The power delivery is relentless and vivid! It handles really well too, yet still has a decent ride. It's an impressive car.

It has been completely reliable too. He is really pleased with it and intends to keep it a long time.

I absolutely love these, exactly what a modern Jaguar saloon should look, sound and go like.

I'd have one of these over any other big saloon (Maserati QP, S63, Rapide etc.), just so right. Enjoy it!

That last bit is good to hear hehe

This is SWB too. No idea how you'd go about parking a LWB, I struggle with the length of mine

It's bloody lovely, although I prefer the other wheels..

I'm after an XFR next but could be tempted by one of these, normally the bigger cars aren't any more expensive but these seem to be an exception.

IIRC these are no heavier than the XF either as its all ally?

20lbs lighter or so I'm told (XJ Supersport less than XFR)

Nice one, that's well wicked. A wee pal of mine from South Shields has one, goes like stink.

Envious. Whilst not a suoersport, I was lucky enough to drive my fathers XJ 3.0d for a good few thousand miles. For me at least, it is and will be forever more my favourite car.

Tip: when turning the traction control off, push the hold the button down for 10-15 seconds until you get a beep and an indication in the clocks. This turns _everything_ off, rather than just "backing everything off a bit".

Car is getting used by my brother tomorrow to pick my dad up from the airport. He's thinking about a diesel one himself next year, hopefully this will persuade him biggrin

I have a 2014 XJR amongst nice collection of other cars.

If I had to pick just one to keep it would be the XJR.

The XJ's are stunning cars. Good value, fast and well equipped.

Your's looks fantastic. Great choice! Enjoy!
