Can we talk about Germany for a bit?

Well that's all gone Pete Tongue, the FDP walked out.

"Today there was no progress but rather there were setbacks because targeted compromises were questioned," FDP leader Christian Lindner told reporters. "It is better not to rule than to rule falsely. Goodbye!"

Well that does seem a bit odd.https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/19/german-coalition-t...

i thought the main point of contention was the green's plan to let the massive numbers admitted by Merkel then bring in family members, but that doesn't seem to have been an issue for the FDP.
They talk of a "lack of trust" and perhaps Merkel was concentrating so much on getting the Greens onside that she went back on some commitments to them.

If she hadnt of split the right wing vote then she could have formed a government with the FDP long ago. It is what happens when you don't have proper conservatives in charge of centre right parties.
Apparently she did the same thing she insists on with EU discussions, set a deadline and exhaust all parties into giving in by locking everyone in a room all night(s).
Except that this time they didn't as unlike the EU. Wonder what will happen now, more elections, a minority government?
Merkel let power get to her head, she decided to open the doors without asking the people what they wanted, I wonder if she will survive this.

Well she has to have a chat with the president (who knew there was one?) today, he will decide what the next step is.
The options are try and continue as a minority government, try for another coalition or go back to the polls.
One left field option is Merkel steps down and an SPD led coalition under Shultz is formed. SPD have said no to a coalition, but if Merkel goes and the SPD leader is put in place, they might go for that. The President is the former SPD leader.

Been reading up on the background to all this.
FDP were previously in coalition with Merkel, however they failed to meet their goals and achieve anything whilst working with her and so they ended up in the wilderness for a few years, like our dearest Libdems are now
So that is what is shaping the FDP mindset, having been burn by co-operating with Merkel once and managing to regain voters trust, they are no longer happy to get into power at any cost.

What, as in "gone wrung?"I'm losing track of contemporary rhyming slang, I have to say.
Plus it's not exactly 'contemporary'. Grandad.
There are rules to be followed when it comes to allowing the Families of Refugees, to join the sponsor.

This being one of the stumbling blocks on talks.
She brought them in, she cant now shirk her responsibilities, it is almost as if she realises she made a huge mistake.....
What happened to "Islam is Germany" and "Refugees Welcome" ?

200,000 refugees is an enormous number to take annually. That's not 200k immigrants, that's refugees.
By comparison, in 2016 the UK received 30,603 applications and granted 8,466 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/immigra...
I'm surprised anyone is still trying to assert that these people are even mostly refugees.By comparison, in 2016 the UK received 30,603 applications and granted 8,466 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/immigra...
