Does anyone know the release date of the Galaxy S7?

I'm due an upgrade soon and was going to go for the S6 (from the S5) but supposedly the S7 is due pretty soon. Some rumouors of mid/end January and others of February at some Mobile Phone Expo thing.
My phone provider said they had no clue at all.
Just wondered if anyone had any inside info ;-)

Or recommendations for other handsets to look at? Android based.

Cheers

Well the S6 was unveiled on 1st March and first deliveries were 10th April. (when I got mine)

So you'd expect it to be around the same time.

Aye, pre-orders now and then normal orders beginning March 11th.

I like the look of them, very much evolution not revolution. The Edge looks good, apparently it's almost useable single handedly(although I guess that depends on the size of your hands!). Expensive though, very nearly iPhone price.

The LG G5 looks good too, might be worth waiting till the reviews and comparison tests come out. The other main (new) rival, HTC's One M10, won't be announced till early to mid April from what people are saying.

I was waiting for these, to see what they were like. I do like the S6 Edge.

Problem is, the S7 Edge is big - 5.5" compared to the 5.1" non-edge - and it's expensive! Three want £99+£41/month. That's over £1000 for 2 years!

Might be my next phone. With the demise of the SD card, the S6 was never going to be my choice so I knew that the next time I wanted to change phones I'd have to shop around. But since the S7 brings it back, then I may still stick with Samsung.

On the other hand, I'm not paying ~£600-700 for a phone so think it will be a while yet before I'm tempted!

I'm quite tempted by one of these. I'm a big HTC fan though and I'm a little worried it will feel really cheap. My current M8 has a metal body and must hit the floor twice a week without a problem. I'm worried I'll get one of these and smash it in a week or two!

As long as you don't have an iphone you'll be fine! The S7 is metal but all these devices are relatively delicate, perhaps just be more careful?

I've always wondered what it is with an iPhone that makes it so delicate, even when they have similar glass to other non Apple phones they still break.

Anyway the wife has an S6, she is a nightmare with looking after her phones, always dropping and breaking them, however she has had the S6 a while now and so far so good, no damage and all that is protecting it is a slim silicone cover.

I thought it was still a glass back and a metal strip running around the sides like the S6?

NorthDave, while it certainly won't feel cheap (the fact it doesn't feel cheap was one of the reasons I was happy to move from HTC to an S6) it probably won't be as resilient as the M8 is.

Waiting to see what HTC can offer up with the One M10 otherwise I'm tempted to jump ship to an Edge S7 from my 10 year affair with Htc.

Significantly larger battery and SD card are pretty compelling...

Still waiting for a Psion Series 3 update so I can go back to a tiny phone with buttons.

Looking forward to the S7 Edge, will pre-order one to get the free GearVR handout. I like the idea of the quick focus camera, expandable memory and the SD820 chipset.
However i also like the new LG G5, i believe that this has a metal body and a USB3 (Type C) connection.
Was disappointed to read that Samsung are sticking with the Micro USB2.0 connection.

I called Samsung today to find out a bit more.
At the moment, there is no news when the silver titanium S7 Edge will be release. You definitely cannot pre-order it.
In addition to that, there is only the 32GB version phones.
Again, no date as to when the 64GB or 128GB will be available.

I'm currently back on the Android phone with a LG G2, after using Windows 8.1 on the Lumia 930 for a little while, and i seriously need to update the phone.

I'd be surprised if Samsung do the S7 with larger flash drives like the S6, seeing as it now has expandable memory again and how cheap SD cards are

I've just read that Samsung have done something weird with the SD card implementation - something along the lines of native android just uses the phone storage + SD card and you dont know any difference. Samsung have made them very separate so a phone with 32Gb and a large SD could still run out of space. I've never managed that successfully to get the apps to use the SD card rather phone storage so I'm now wondering if the Samsung's are for me.

I read this too.
But with the expansion slot, all the music, pictures will goon the SD Card instead. 32GB for apps seem more than enough.
I think Samsung were worried users would put the SD card in the phone, write apps to it, then complain that their phone was crap as everything was slow (due to a slow read/write speed of the SD card).

I should think it would include a fair bit! When you subtract the cost of the phone from that you're paying £18.50 a month for whatever mins, texts and data you're getting.

If you bought the phone only and spend £18 per month on a GiffGaff goodybag you'd get 2000 mins, unlimited texts and 6Gb of data(admittedly at fairly rubbish speeds).
