This chap should be PM.

Was on 5 news tonight (don't ask, no idea why it was on TV!) talking about Google's tax payments and, as usual when I've seen him speak, nailed it. The newsreader and some nondescript opposing view simply could not put up a cohesive argument.

Many won't be able to see beyond the accent or colour of his rosette, but I've always been impressed by him and the sheer common sense he speaks. We need more politicians like this.

Not a Tory myself but sincerely hope he gets to play a high profile role in the OUT campaign.

He's also very funny - wonderful dry sense of humour. Have a lot of time for him.

Agree with all of that.

He's extremely sharp, and quick whitted?

An interesting fellow certainly, but as PM? Nah...

I’ve never been able to quite get to grips with the way his mind works. He comes across very much as an old-school High Tory in much the same way as, for example, Alex Douglas Hume did. And I’m not sure that history tells us that that sort of bloke is the best sort of bloke to be in charge of one of the two major parties in the UK.

I think it is fair to conclude that the man is intelligent. However, should you see him on shows such as Have I Got News For You (that he seems to enjoy doing), I can only assume that he is often taking the piss out of himself – for example, conversations about “his nanny” in his younger days in front of the likes of Hislop and Merton are only going to go one way, after all...

All that said, he is an MP for a constituency just down the road from me – indeed, there used to be a regular poster on PH (called mr purple - he seems to have gone awfully quiet since UKIP’s stunning result in the last GE) who might actually live in his constituency. Perhaps he could pass comment on how good a constituency MP he is – I suspect quite a good one.

However, in PR and marketing terms – if you want Jeremy Corbin as PM in 2020, vote for Jacob to replace Call Me Dave ...

Can we have more descriptive thread titles, please - I clicked on the link thinking "Oh no, don't tell me he's dead, too!"

I wasn't sure whether to reply to this post ...just in case. Oh what the heck, JR-M always looks fit and well.

Hope I don't regret this. hehe

His Dad had a pretty nifty turn of phrase too, as I recall.

That's exactly what I mean. Not the sort of thing to appeal to the average man on the Clapham omnibus, is it?

In 2016, that average man's first thought on the Clapham omnibus would be:

"What's gruel?"

wink

Well I've always had a lot of time for JR-M and seeing as RS1952 now reckons he's not much cop that seals the deal for me. Got even more time for him now. hehe

Of course that might - just might - explain why I'm on the winning side of a fair number of our arguments

There more than a little self-parody with him. I think he's hamming it up to annoy the "ooh, bloody evil Tories" brigade. Love it.

Still dreaming then one notes. You don't win, just frequently ignored.

These days none of them would speak English anyway.

Clearly JRM is not the only one who self parodies.

Which perhaps says more about the average man than R-M?

I just read your piece above, it's Corbyn, not Corbin. And it was Alec (not Alex) Douglas-Home (not Hume), although his name was pronounced like that. See I'm still good at this game, it's important (although many no longer think so). wink

I got into trouble at school when AD-H became PM as I had done a caricature of him of an art-room door. In fact, I only just avoided the cane for it!
Just thinking, I could have become a Banksy! laugh Ahh, the crossroads of life...

And I wouldn't compare AD-H to JR-M. He is, as you say, similar in being an old school Tory (the last one!) but I simply can't visualise JR-M carrying a shotgun on a grouse shoot!

Oh, and of course, when CMD does eventually go, 'we' can't vote for his successor.
