Has anything been said about the driver who hit the highways agency staff.
Has he/she been arrested yet.
The highways agency are also very cautious for obvious reasons with scene management so it will be interesting to see what happened.
I believe this is the first death for a few years which is 1 to many.
RIP to the officer who lost his life and i hope the other chap makes a full recovery.

Unfortunately the good old public will still drive to close to other vehicles and ignore the speed limits
Driver has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

In mags court on Tuesday, no doubt it will just be for him to confirm his details before being passed up to crown court.

Given the hundreds of cars I see each week who pile on recklessly through red X's on the M25 I'm surprised there aren't more such horrible tragedies.

But I guess a few deaths are ok so long as these folks all get home in time for tea eh?
There's another angle to view. Signs are frequently unnecessary and this is bound to lead to drivers ignoring them.
It's an area that needs tightening but it's no excuse at all.

Ignoring a warning because the previous warning was unnecessary is very immature.
No, it's not, it's human nature. Crying wolf time after time after time is never going to do anything other than cement the subliminal message that the signs are on in error or are malfunctioning.

I'm driving 50-80,000 miles a year and the huge number of false alarms never fails to amaze me.
Yes it is. I do 40-50,000 miles a year, most of it on the M25. Daily I see lanes shut due to accidents and breakdowns and some utter retards just keep driving down, often right up to the incident.

I've even seen somone driving down a closed lane then try to pull in to let an ambulance pass only to block the lane as the other lanes were nose to tail stationary.

I see speed limit false alarms but I hardly ever see red X false alarm.

I'd be happy to see an instant ban for driving down a closed lane. Driving under the influence of stupidty should cover it.

Agreed. There is no excuse.

Who they, hardly senior players?

Never heard of them myself, then again, I'm a Liverpool fan, so I hope he gets the maximum sentence.

I'll keep an eye on court serve for the outcome. I presume he's pleaded Not Guilty at his appesrance at the first crown court date? What was he indicted for at court? Death by dangerous or was it death by careless plus the injury to the second officer (sometimes indictments vary to rhos initially charged once the CPS get their hands On it)

Completely agree, different scenario but near me there is an NSL country road, in the van I can do at a constant 60, in the car a wee bit more. However there is 'SLOW' and right/left hand corner signs literally every 100metres for long sweeping bends. The signs are completely unnecessary for all but 1 corner, which tightens over blind crest, then goes on to a T junction after 100m or so.

The first time I drove that road at 18 I nearly wiped out trying to scrub off speed for the junction and losing the back end as I was still cornering over the blind crest. There have been several accidents that I know of in the last few years at that very spot, worst thing is the LA completely refused to acknowledge the excessive signage further up the road as the reason that people don't slow down enough.
