Anyone posted this here yet, very interesting and jolly well done to Lidl.

think the dark cove might take some getting used to... it's a touch complex!

well clearly it's all IMHO and I don't want to influence anyone's opinion, but we're all grown-ups. I'm not sure it works, and that's a hard thing for me to say as I am a massive Ardbeg fan, to which this thread is testament. The nose quite frankly is flat, and i dare say not a very nice aroma. The mouth-feel is nice, but the taste just seems to build between very smoky and very sweet, but there's a odd crossover in the middle where it kind of tastes a bit like if you'd set fire to a black forest gateau, but not in a way that works. As I said, maybe I just need to accommodate a new flavour into my palate, but your instincts can sometimes be right! I don't begrudge buying it, you've got to try these things. I'll try it again without being a bottle of red down, to be fair. Also I didn't add water, which at proper cask strength, even though it's not normally something i do, might just sort it all very nicely.

Well, that certainly doesn't sound like a run-of-the mill dram.

Looking forward to have some this evening.

Think I'll try it before sampling any wine too.

How many years is it going to take us to reach 500 pages this time?

Interesting thoughts on the Dark Cove. I have to wait until the whisky messe in April to have a try.

Had a bit of retail therapy today and bought these, but which to try first?

Enjoying a nice GlenDronach 1994 Batch 12 with the 2nd half. Going down well.

I've just taken a look at a bottle of that at the whiskey shop, sounds delicious lick, maybe one for next month.

I've not done the Ardbeg thing for a couple of years but was drawn by the ''sherry at its heart'' description for Dark Cove.

Its clearly an Ardbeg - nothing like a Lagavulin Distillers - a firm favourite.

Its really delivers on the palate - small amounts on the very tip of your tongue - BAM ! Peat smoke with a hint of sweetness that lingers for a good while. Not done anything with a drop of water yet. Just busy sipping away over the last few nights.

(Look forward to a better nights sleep after last nights all night rave in the local woods - cheers plod - f all use. Only respect is that they took all their rubbish home - since when have ravers had a small degree of morals ?).

Tip of tongue to back of mouth - several times. Give it time.
The nose is delivering best at the bottom of the glass - plenty of air in the nosing glass.
This is one that goes a long way - perfect for a tight Yorkshireman.

Whilst you lot are talking TCP, Mrs Podie and I have done half a bottle of BenRiach American oak. Which was nice.
