189 people complain about being offended by two blokes dancing on Strictly! I'm genuinely gobsmacked.

Started its own thread. When I put Strictly in to search this did not come up.

Why - bit low? 200 out of 10.5 million viewers seems negligible. They probably get more complaints on a week there are no same-sex pairs. Mind you why anyone watches the competitive gurning is beyond me.

The title says "easily offended"... I'd be amazed if they'd had any complaints at all prior to this.

In a list of TV complaints so far this year both Love Island and Corry (M Lipman's IVF comment, don't cha know) came out worse than Strictly. And a couple of others. I need to get out more. biggrin

My dalliance with Google was pretty unsuccessful as well.

I see that the town of Bideford has had to change it's signs.

Due to the predominant colour of the buildings, it was known as The Little White Town.

This has now been deemed offensive and removed from the town signs.
No it hasn't. Stop posting complete rubbish.

All they have done is add 'Charles Kingsley's' before 'Little White Town' and added a date, to provide some extra context.
Had they actually done any thing when you posted? Have they now?

The BBC story on it from the 4th November has this:

BBC said:
Town councillor Dermot McGeough confirmed he had had complaints about the phrase and the council had debated the issue.

He said that when he had tried to explain its history, the complainants "were not interested at all", which is why he "wanted the council to have their views on this matter".

Mr McGeough added the decision to change the signs to "Charles Kingsley's Little White Town" still needed finance committee approval and would then go "back to the full council for ratification".

He pointed out that the matter could still be removed from the agenda

You're supposed to believe whichever version best reinforces your prejudices and makes you the angriest.

Surely if a version of something reinforces a prejudice then you'd feel your bias validated, so why might that lead to anger? Now if you'd said "whichever version opposes your prejudice the most..." smile

While I don't find it offensive, it is pretty cringeworthy. laugh

The muppet that complains her physical appearance hasn't changed has clearly never done any exercise so wouldn't know that the endorphines you can get after a decent workout can help change your mindset etc, you can be in shape but still want to improve your mental health / wellbeing, exercise is pretty much the best way to do it.

I'm actually surprised that the new Renault Clio TV advert hasn't received any complaints; either parents getting all uppity about a pair of lesbians on TV when their precious children are watching or someone saying it is gratuitous and men who may objectify women might get a lazy lob on after seeing it or some other usual crap like that!!
