That's ^^^ an interesting turn.

Just Marine Le Pen, no NF, vs. that bloke who married his primary school teacher. Because that's not weird at all.
Secondary school I'd thought?

Not that marrying a teacher 25 years his senior is somehow less weird because he met her a few years later.

Looks like a last-ditch bid by Le Pen this evening to disassociate herself from the far-right, by "resigning" and becoming "independent". Probably too little, too late, though.

UKIP voters; here is the table representing percentages for certain groups of voters.

From yougov, which column is for UKIP?

Do you have a version of that table that includes 'have a proper degree from a property university', given that > 30% of young people go to University these days whereas a university education was the preserve of the elite few 40+ years ago.

Not sure what 'proper degree from a property university' is. Sounds like something that Trump would advertise, no?

Really? Do you honestly think that the range and quality of degrees available today is directly comparable to the range and quality of degrees available in the past?

I'll try once again. What is a 'proper degree from a property university'?

What makes you say that - the fact that just over a fifth of their vote was cast for a party who have a similar outlook on foreigners and immigration to that of the BNP? rofl

I don't understand this mentality from JJ and the like. There are a few affluent areas near here, it's not all bleak nottinghamshire/derbyshire mining towns, I remember seeing "Vote leave" and "Vote ukip" on a lot of very nice properties in the area, something tells me those home owners didn't come to have such wealth by being "fick innit".

Would make sense, my fault for being so naive as to think them misguided with good intentions rather than out and out stposters.

Pretty excellent piece here from the Beeb of all places on Le Pen and the journey thus far. Very balanced look at the party as it stands today and their odd mix of left/right sensibilities.

Is it just me that thinks Macron being the opposition in the 2nd round is a gift for Le Pen?

He is the establishment personified, an elite high school education where the French grow their establishment figures, former finance minister who bought himself out of his government contract to work for the Rothschild's. He then moved back into politics and served in a high profile role in Hollandes staff then worked for Vall's in a senior finance role. He is rabid pro EU.

If I was writing a resume for someone to use as a target for the anti establishment, anti status quo people to vote against, it would look like Macron.
