hey're just 'stats'. They don't speak about specifics and the measures are extraordinarily blunt.

I've just had a meeting with one of the wealthiest of my mates from school. He's a bit younger than me, but already wealthy enough to retire on a very decent income. (He won't because his youngest child is six, so he and his wife can't just swan off around the world, so he might as well keep a few irons in the fire). He was a tearaway at school, not the least academic, more than a bit disruptive and never had any higher education. He's one of the sharpest guys I know.

One of the brightest guys I knew at school is a police officer - it was a vocation for him and so lumping him into the intelligence and education equals affluence is a nonsense.

Education does not equate to intelligence any more than a modest income equates to education.
Excellent comment.
From personal experience,I have three daughters, the two older got good Uni degrees both doing ok...ish.
My youngest wasn't "academic" but is very bright and personable.
Left school, always found a job, often mundane jobs for a couple of years and then two years after leaving school talked herself into a job with a large corporate that only usually employs Graduates with Masters.
Now two years later doing very well there.

Quite. This wealthy mate, when I'd graduated, was grafting an ordinary job in an electrical trade shop. Not too long after, I knew he was on the up when he got in touch with me because he knew I knew my TVRs and he was looking at buying one. These days he basically has the lot; new 911s and Ferraris and much more besides. All power to him.

Macron hasn't come under any serious scrutiny until the first round results.

They are now relying on the "anyone but Le Pen" vote, because Macron is looking pretty crap if he were to be up against anyone else, now he is being scrutinised. He is certainly not coming across at all well outside of the cities.

This vote is going to be a lot closer than that poll suggests.

Le Pen has got that bang on.

Dependent on how hard Merkel pulls the string determines just how far Macron will jump.

Thats closer then Macron would like. As a lot of voters won't admit they are voting for a party labelled as racist.

Found this. From what's written Macron policies make a lot more sense, to me.

yes

Cutting taxes, increasing investment expenditure, reducing the budget deficit.....sounds fairly sensible.
Which ones support this reading?

He's going to cut the number of civil servants, and drop Corp Tax and strictures. They were the areas of cuts or sensible change to up the income imo.

The rest was all expenditure, and little of it true "investment".

Yes, he noted 60bn of costs to be cut etc... But where from?

And if "making all trade partners conform to all Single Market rules" includes freedom of movement... Best of luck with that. It won't be desirable for the EU for 70% of the world nor for the trading partner for the other 5%.

I agree that Le Pen's don't look that great either. But that doesn't make Macron's good. As Finance Minister France has hardly shone. So either he wasn't strong enough to cover that his way, or he wasn't very good at it.

There's no 'if' in terms of the EU listening. What reaction has the Brexit vote or A50 instigated? The only reaction I have seen is the standard 'more Europe is the answer'.
Very reminiscent of the reaction from Labour when they lost the last election: "we weren't left wing enough".

"Obama backs Macron in last minute election intervention"

All she needs now is to pay Juncker and Tony Blair to speak up for him and that 18% lead he has will be gone overnight, let alone before Monday.

And then we have this above.
