Well attempted murder. What a nasty piece of work the husband is.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after his wife’s main parachute failed to open in a 4,000ft jump, police said on Tuesday. Sgt Emile Cilliers, 36, an army fitness instructor, is accused of two counts of the attempted murder of his wife, Victoria, 40. He faces a further charge of criminal damage reckless to the endangerment of the lives of their two children

article said:
She had given birth five weeks before the accident, according to reports.

Emile Cilliers was questioned the following day and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder the following month.

He is also accused of tampering with a gas fitting at his wife’s home the week before the parachute accident, in what the Crown Prosecution Service said on Tuesday was another attempt to murder her. The CPS said he was reckless as to whether his two children would be endangered in this act, which took place between 28 and 31 March 2015.

There would appear to be simpler, more reliable ways to carry out the deed, wouldn't there?

It's such a shame in this country that if you want to leave your wife/husband the only way is to kill them.

If only there was some other way.....like those fancy divorces they have in other countries. Or imagine if you could just walk out the door or, crazy I know, settle things in an amicable manner and go on with your lives.

Still at least he chose a clever method the second time as parachuting accidents never get investigated by specialists.

Too many strings attached, or in this case not.

How bizarre, what a dick, presumably he wanted the life insurance money, would it have covered parachute jumps?

Surely parachuting 5 weeks after giving birth could lead to all sorts of flaps and flaring, would she need a chute?

There was another one last weekend, wasn't murder though. Poor woman landed on a parked car, what a terrible way to go.

"said she died ‘doing what she loved’."

Plummeting to the earth screaming in fear before haemorrhaging massively?

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

And indeed he's being charged for trying at least two of them!

I'm guessing the prick wanted to join the ranks of those who got away with it and was too arrogant to realise that *everyone* involved would spot a tampered-with parachute and such.

That was an interesting one is that she was relatively newly qualified and had special permission to use modified equipment to work with her restricted growth (dwarfism) condition:
http://www.bpa.org.uk/assets/Minutes/STCminutes201...

I'm sure the BPA will be looking at whether the modifications were sufficient, although it's possible her condition had further effects, eg. the spin could have affected her more quickly/seriously than somebody without. For a severe spin you can lose consciousness if you don't correct it quickly. Usually this is straightforward - you pull a handle that releases the main canopy and deploys the reserve automatically.

Should dwarfs be parachuting?

Regarding the guy in the op, I'm very surprised he's been bailed hving been charged with not one but two counts of attempted murder. I'm sure his poor wife isn't sleeping so well at the moment.

Either I'm due a parrot (probably) or you're not thinking too clearly, why on earth not?

Why on earth would being short or having short arms and legs stop someone from parachuting, assuming appropriately fitted kit as the linked BPA minutes indicate.

Takes longer to hit the ground?

The guy in question has done 10000 plus jumps, he was 6 foot tall when he started.
