Huddersfield Daily Examiner interviewed his dad on their Facebook page a week or so ago. He’s still maintaining his son was as legit as they come. When asked about the machete found in his sons room he said it was just an ‘ornament’. When asked about the body armour he said they had someone staying over at their house briefly and he must have left the body armour behind lol.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but, given the CCTV cameras surrounding his house, and the company his son was keeping, and the machete, and the body armour, there comes a point when you have to accept that NOBODY can be that naive and/or deluded, there's really only one conclusion....

What a wker.
When somebody is so clearly as dodgy AF why don't police or HMRC look closely at their declared earning and assets and start asking questions?
Doesnt his father own a st load of property. You’d think they’d enquire.
Yep, unexplained wealth order. Or perhaps proceeds of crime. Maybe it's because they don't want to upset the 'community'.
Unexpected wealth orders are limited to cases with political influence. Proceeds of crime, yep.

Excellent article, and a very brave piece of journalism. Reading, you hope these communities have perhaps now turned a corner.
wkers will always be wkers.

I only watched a bit of it last night, and didn’t really understand why the father took part. He seems to be in a huge amount of denial about his little boy.
It’s nothing more than culture. The shame on the family. So, deny deny deny.

I do laugh when this thread gets bumped.

I can't help but go look back from page 20ish where Drainbrain started the ultimate MI5-Walt-double-down-excavation ever recorded on a forum.

In a similar vein I wonder where System Paranoia is these days?

It's a good article, quite frank really.
It is interesting to read of the factors that the author suggests are behind that community's over-representation in certain crimes, for example even basic logistics.

In my experience the families of people involved in stuff like this are long past shame.

If they feel it brings shame on the family - why go out for as much publicity as possible?

Precisely. Especially when it’s so obvious that he wasn’t an “innocent” victim.

One of the “benefits” of social media... Alternative facts and controlling the media.

The BBC article above is very good but it does dip its toe into scapegoating - apparently closing the manufacturing by government and south Asian entrepreneur culture means they criminality is a valid career choice rolleyes

Forgetting of course that most of the textile manufacturing jobs from that area went to South Asia...

Re the guy's dad it probably isn't shame or even denial - but perhaps he's involved in criminal activities himself?

At the very least he must have been involved in cleaning his son's dirty money.

But then surely you'd want to keep your head down, rather than continuing to attract attention to yourself.......?

But if the Police now investigate the source of his wealth, there will be uproar from the local 'community'. The numbers being swelled because the publicity has made him well known.

bks. Were that the case, they would not be investigating the many and various grooming gang cases - which they very much are.

I would agree.

Higher profile means more headache up the police hierarchy/local politics.

Last thing they want is chavs protesting outside police station/town hall.

Watch the doc series linked to on the previous page. Very interesting and some interesting points re: ignorance/turning a blind eye/naivety etc.

I stand to be corrected but generally Police do not investigate sources of wealth.
