5 or so years ago I bought a stand alone kitchen waste bin.. you know the type, 3 or so feet tall, step on the pedal and the lid opens type affair.

I fking hate the thing.

Its positioned on a tiled floor, so when you step on the pedal it slides back and the lid smashes against the wall, marking the paint in the process.

But this is nothing compared to the blood boiling frustration I experience every time I replace the bin liner... The stupid metal handle attached to the inner 'bin' always drops down, so when you try and lift the bag out it catches on anything that isn't perfectly smooth and lifts the inner bin with it. This then clatters the lid into the wall again.

Absolute of a bin.

Yet when we moved house it came with us. And it just sits there, like the bd bin it is and I do nothing about it.

Anyone else put up similar st and yet just live with it? (wives/girlfriends excluded)

Our bin has the same design. It annoys me a ridiculous amount for such a minor thing.

Lightbulbs tend to go unaddressed until such time it looks like we're living in 1920.

This is partly due to the fact that ICBA and partly due to the fact that the notion of buying a lightbulb these days requires a degree in electrical installation, light engineering and a matrix chart of the various fitting types available.....which further fuels the first reason.

Funnily enough I have a pedal bin related issue too. The plastic cover under the pedal has fallen off and the shiny metal top of the pedal has bent, to it doesn't really work - I have to lift the lid manually. I put up with it instead of fixing it or getting a new one.

We used to have a cheap Wilko swing bin, did the job perfectly. Mrs decided we needed to get a better one and now have a fancier looking swing bin that only holds about 2/3 of what the other one did, isn't wide enough at the top to take all the crumbs off the bread board, and if you push it back to far it won't open as the lid swings int o the wall.

I feel your pain biggrin

What gets me is the woman in the shop putting the new bin in a huge plastic bag, I carry it home, take the bin out of the bag and put the bag in the bin!

What's the bloody point!

hehe I feel your pain.

We've just bought some new (very stylish) ceiling lamps...except their design is such that you can't find a single low-energy bulb that fits, only incandescent / halogen. So much for energy-saving... frown

Simple human ones are good but expensive for a bin, the pedal is one solid plate under the length of it so doesn't bend or fall to bits.

Can I add "my brothers" in this context, please?

Eldest brother, 53, has lived in the U.S. since he was 22.
Almost got deported as an 'illegal alien' aged 27.
Voted Trump.
Agrees with the new, ridiculous, Executive Order.

Elder brother, 51, lives in an affluent area in the UK.
Voted to leave in Brexit based on immigration, alone.
Why? "I don't want all those Turks entering the EU!"
Where does he go on holiday? Turkey.

FFS. You can't make this st up!

I love 'em both, but they're tw@ts at the same time. rolleyes

Have been to Ikea today too grrr,

This bin struggle is real, lid doesn't stay on properly so hits the wall behind, all the paint is marked, resorted to 18 months of bags in the corner but when they started being 5p the under counter reserve of plastic bags dwindled, hence more bin pain with this latest one form the "range"

It's tremendously satisfying to sort this little things out, occasionally make a list and tick a few off, it really does work.

Even when I went on holiday to a cheap hostel, where I was due to stay for 4 nights... on day 1 I noticed that the door to the dorm made a huge and annoying squeak when people came in... therefore broken sleep etc. The next day I got some veg oil from the kitchen and fixed the squeak. Completely silent.

I did mention to some other dorm mates I'd done it. Didn't even notice! For me though, I'm pretty noise sensitive so this enhanced my stay no end!

We have a small pulley thing in our utility room ceiling for drying a few items of clothes that can't go in the tumble. The hook to tie the rope on is on the wrong side of the back door frame, so the back door only opens about 1/2 of what it should and if you force it a bit more then the rope acts like a rubber band and slams the door into your back as your getting out.

So every time I go out to get some wood for the woodburner, basket in both hands I get the door handle embedded into my back, resulting in me shouting an expletive.

And yet 2 years later, I've not got around to moving it.

It reminds me of Modern family and the step Phil always falls over.

Oh yes, the bin issues. I had the marvellous idea of buying a bin with a sensor that opens itself. Now that thing is a tt. Walk by it, the opens. Look at it funny, it opens, breathe on it, it opens. Stupid, stupid thing! Don't know why I put up with it to be honest.

Loving the thread move!

OP is about a bin, this can only be a bin thread, suitable for HG&DIY.

Bath related woes here: The bathroom extractor fan is connected to a humidistat, great when I just have a shower, it comes on, does its thing then turns off; however it will also come on when I've just got in the bath, disturbing my peace and quiet, forcing me to get out and fiddle with the controls that are mounted at ceiling height and aren't really meant to altered. Also I don't think the bath plug is sealing 100% leading to an almost imperceptible but mightily annoying gurgling sound emanating from the overflowmad
