Hi everyone,
Just a message to give you some info about the event this year in Le Mans the day before the race.
The Classic British Welcome festival is FREE as usual and our theme this year is Marcos . .
We celebrate 50 years since the first factory car (Mini Marcos) raced at Le Mans in 1967.
There will be around 70-80 Marcos cars of ALL models and a few Le Mans race cars of course!
We aim to be operating a FREE Park & Ride this year for the first time to try to reduce the traffic getting into the site and I will update you on it's location nearer the time.
We have a 33 member British Military band on site also, and our VIP guests will be quadriplegic Le Mans driver from 2016, Frederick Sausset and his fellow drivers Christophe Tinseau and J-B Bouvet from Team SRT41 . . We will also have 3 other Marcos Le Mans Drivers as guests.
Everyone welcome and FREE entry and Parking on site for all makes of Classic cars and Sports cars.
Bring your car and be part of the 1,000 cars that normally make the event . .. without your cars, we have no event !
Regards
Dave Williams, Vice President

The GBW is an integral part of the weekend.

Looking forward to it, as usual.

The stories of traffic chaos is what has kept me away from CBW since I started going to LM a couple of years ago.

However, I've heard great things about the show itself and would love to see it - a Park n Ride would be just brilliant

There was a new one way route for exit last year, much better than before. Hope it will be the same for 2017.

A French guy (in a Jag) nudging me uphill to the exit was the last straw for me, sorry guys I hope you have a good un but i'ts without me this year

No damage done but hey this was St Sat not Rue De Cambronne in Paris, I don't need help getting out of a car park

(To be fair everyone in the queue was pee'd off at the slow egress/progress we were suffering, he seemed to think I'd already moved. Face was a picture in my mirror) smile

I'll be taking the tram to town

There certainly will be! More information to follow on this soon, but we will be returning for our third Friday Service at CBW. For those worrying about traffic, last year was much better than 2015 and the park and ride will only help this further. We'll post more details here in due course.

Was at the classic last year so didn't see if there was any improvement, we might attend, a ph car park might sway it, but Marcos being the brand and the fact that it was pretty miserable in 2015 and the traffic was a nightmare means we are making alternative plans currently.

Have generally always enjoyed it, but the more popular it has become the less the site has been able to cope.

As I have said before, the place is now a victim of its success.

Far too many cars are now trying to access the site and getting out last year was a nightmare.

We (V8 Vantage & 993Turbo) will never go near it again.

Sorry.

We missed last year as we were stuck in mud at camp! I know the traffic the year before was crap but we're British and queuing is what we do. Can't wait for this years as missing it in 2016 was a real downer. This year we'll be two Exiges and a vx220. Please let us know if we need to register these like previous years.

Friend of mine said if you have anything 'interesting' they park you on the show ground - I presume that's what the free parking for sports and classics refers to earlier in this thread? So does that mean our XKR will be invited to park in the main show area? Or do I need to find out about the park and ride? Sorry never been, but I've been told its a must see event.

As you drive up to the event the marshalls decide who goes through to the show car parks and who gets sent to the ordinary car parks, the park and ride is new so i have no information on it.

The event is meant to be a classic car show but the marshalls are not always that good at regognising "classic cars" so often very old interesting cars get sent away while vast numbers of modern expensive cars get sent into the show parks, this is my only real gripe of the event. I love to see some of the really unusual old cars that you never see at uk events rather than rows of porsches which you can see in the camp sites anyway.

A brilliant event that perhaps has been the victim of it's own success but still worth making the effort to go to each year

Thanks for that update, much appreciated. Shame about the missing of some classics, I like run of the mill in-coveted stuff, not just rows of Porsche's like you say.
My XKR looks modern and expensive so it sounds like I might be directed to a show park - handy, though I'd rather see cheaper classics than modern XKRs.

The show is not my type of thing, but my mate said it set him up / got him in the mood totally for the whole event, so I'm sold and looking forward to it.

You will love it, plenty of drinks and food for sale (proceeds go to the school i think) and vast amount of cars of all ages, often some brand new exotica you will never have seen before, plus this year a collection of Marcos cars including many actual le mans cars. Plus stuff for sale(racing memrobillia) a film show, marching band (has to be seen to be believed, and many famous guests(racing type not z list celebrities from reality shows. Give yourself plenty of time the show car parks are huge
