Have we reached "peak guardian"?
Discussion
One of my best friends, sister works for the Guardian (not a journo)
She's intelligent, educated, a good laugh. If she phoned me now and asked a favour. I'd do it.
But I know NEVER to talk Politics with her. She's not prolific on Facebook but anything even vaguely political I am 99 times out of 100 diametrically opposed to!

People read it because its easy and fast changing, people don't want to read great walls of text.Throw in a few pics and quite a lot of the public like it just like Mcds. The thing is a vast swathe of the public aren't as condemning as on here, and don't eat poached salmon on a bed of walnuts every night or feel the need to get their fill of the Dow Jones index.

The problem with the Grauniad is that while its investigative journalism is bob-on, one of the best in the industry, they seem to couple that side of it with a whole section of reel-'em-in inflammatory "opinion" articles. I'm sure half the time, the columnists like Toynbee are just on a wind-up.
I agree entirely! Half their stuff is absolutely brilliant & a much needed balance to the Government & hard right - as the media should be. The other half of it is such limp wristed left wing SJW dribble the mind boggles. It's good to see it's noticed by others as well!I don't think of the Guardian in a negative light, but perhaps that's because I filter out some of the stuff that Twitter page is highlighting.

These days I think I despise the Guardian even more than the DM.
Likewise. The Guardian has some decent intelligent journo's all but totally drowned out by the hang wringing, wailing and weeping of the guilt ridden, permanently offended, 'everything is unfair' bunch of Islington fvcksticks they give so much space to. They should know better. The DM on the other hand is the DM; a slightly racist version of Heat magazine. You almost have to admire how they manage to be so obsequious and condescending at the same time.DELETED: Comment made by a member who's account has been deleted.
Deconstruction lunacy at it's finest.Derrida would have approved of those long stretches she makes.
Anyone who looks at life in that way, or considers that sort of analysis to be clever has been failed by their environment, family and educators.
A couple of the comments are from people that don't appear any brighter. No wonder they're impressed.
I do wish opinion articles would just go and die. They can be interesting but increasingly seem to just be clickbait.
Having said that, the Guardian did post this which I thought to be pretty decent, and very difficult to live by:
News is bad for you, and you should stop reading it.

That pretentious little worm isn’t fit to shine the shoes of those we seek to remember, in my opinion. ChemicalChaos said:
Thanks for that, what a great feed. So much blended madness and good sense.foxbody-87 said:

Agreed. One of the most positive developments of remembrance, of late, is the united understanding that it affected all nations involved, that we've moved on from the over-simplified "Germans were the bad guys" narrative, to understanding the mutuality of war.Having visited the battlefield where my Grandfather was injured out of WW1 (and thereby possibly even saved from death) by German machine gun fire, and also seen many of the numerous other war memorials in the nearby area, I was struck with sadness for the Germans that were lost - the lack of commemoration for those lives and families. Maybe my take on things is slightly skewed by living right by one of the largest German war cemeteries in the UK, but nonetheless, seeing England and Germany playing football both wearing poppies is, for me, a very positive way to remind ourselves of the sacrifices made and also to attempt to learn the lessons of history.
This sort of history should never be pushed aside.

It can't get lower than that, surely! And the author.. have you ever seen someone who looks so void of talent, and needing to jump on the bandwagon to get anywhere, as he does!
I used to quite enjoy the Grauniad but I think what ruined it was when they started conflating bloggers with journalists and increasing the number of 'opinion pieces' vs actual intellectual commentary. It used to be a fairly highbrow paper but in recent years has become incredibly dumbed down. .
