I think that, irrespective of how good WWII is and despite seemingly being the game the CoD community wanted, previous CoDs have done irreparable harm to the franchise and a huge part of the prior fan base has drifted away never to return. Hence the lack of comments here!

FWIW, i thought BO3 was a great game. I've got IW but not played it much; a re-skin of BO3 that wasn't as good. MWR was the big disappointment for me. Every time i played it i ended up rage quitting. I've ended up playing Titanfall 2. It's got its issues, but i don't think I've ever rage quit.

I agree. The last time I can say I really enjoyed COD multiplayer was MW2 - there was at least a sense of a strategic battle going on, after that it descended into a headless-chicken fest. The last campaign I played to completion was MW3 after which I switched over to BF3.

As you say, I don't think switching era is goung to make any difference to the dynamics that broke the franchise - it seemes to be centred more around AHD kids perk-whoring on claustrophobic maps with purple skinned guns than any semblence of enjoyable team based warfare. In the era of big open-world experiences like dayz, GTA and the much bigger maps of BF, COD just seems a very outdated experience.

I think the choice of WW2 seems a bit predictable, to put space between them and BF1 they should really have done 'nam or something. Anyway I think we'll get the usual disjointed campaign then the same online COD DLC fest but with new art so I'm not expecting much tbh.

I echo the above sentiments. BO3 was fine, but IW went full retard and it's going to be hard for them to recover from it. All the people that bought CoD through the years all kept saying how WaW/MW1 was the best and it got slightly worse and worse after each itteration. Guns with ridiculous camos and cringe worthy end of match gestures along with the heavily robotised player models. From what I gather everyone has moved onto battlefield 1, destiny or overwatch. They are milking CoD way too much now and it's lost all quality/fun to it, now it's just for kids and e-sports wannabes.

It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out. I have noticed that despite the reveal having been made, there doesn't seem to be a huge deal of interest in it. Perhaps COD has just blown itself out after one too many derivative iterations.

It's interesting that they've chosen to go back to WW2. Whilst the finest hours of the series were set in WW2 (WaW and COD2), I don't know if this return to a more familiar setting will resurrect Call of Duty. It'll no doubt be better than some of the st they've released in the past but they'll have their work cut out to make it seem fresh and exciting.

They should have gone with the Vietnam war or the Korean war, I think.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. Everyone I know has said how if WaW was remade they would get it, and everyone got pissed off that in order to get the remake you have to shell £80 for it plus a stupid game (IW) you don't want, so nobody bought it, not to mention that you have to PAY even more if you want remastered versions of already remastered maps. If they don't take the piss they might get those with rose tinted glasses to come back.

Me, I'm not getting it unless my buddues/clan is interested in getting it.

Not sure of what to make of it. I am happy it no longer has double jumping, wall running crap anymore though. I thought all the MW1, 2 and 3 games where the best and I wasn't too keen on any of the Blops.

MW2 kept me playing for 2 years which I think was the best of the lot, maybe because kill streak rewards where better but also counter air strike weapons dealt with air support much better it was a much more rounded game. The maps where also good too.

Be interesting to see the kill streaks in WW2, I can imagine the dogs will return also the Nuke.

Ill buy it as I have brought everyone since MW1 on PS3. I just hope they dont release MW2 remastered with it because if they do then the new one will not get a look in.

Pretty much sums it up for me. The helicopters ruin MWR; if it had either Ghost or lock-on launchers it would be alright, but you don't get either so if you come up against a good team in a pub it's just not a fun, balanced game. But they realised that and corrected it for MW2.

The WWII official release trailer will be out on Wednesday (26 April). I'll be interested to have a look and may end by buying it down the line, but i'm fed up of the expensive DLC / supply drops system. If they make a convincing case about how they're going to manage that i'd be more interested, but i'm not holding my breath. It's one of the things that i like about TF2, all the DLC is free. If nothing else it stops fragmenting the player base between those who do and those who don't have various map packages, which slows down matchmaking.

As said above, lost interest in COD years ago. Played the originals and got as far as MW2. Didn't bother after that as it went in a direction I wasn't happy with.

I wonder if this had anything to do with the series taking a turn for the worst:

Most used words in the reveal; 'boots on ground' and 'visceral' - sounds like they were getting paid a bonus for the number of mentions,

So what they revealed:

Josh Duhamel the named star
A repeat of the original normandy landing in campaign
Campaign based on The US - as usual the UK seemingly didn't partake in WW2
Divisions - sounds like some sort of clan thing
Co-op mode - a seperate storyline with zombie Nazis
Return to authentic era weapons
Looks pretty - more grungy than the 'plastic' looking IW
MP will be revealed at E3
Private Beta access with pre-order
November release

Looks like a next-gen version of the original COD - be interesting to see if they do a remastered MW2 or not. I expect they will save that for the next jet-pack frenzy from the other studio next year to fend off what I expect will be BF going to Vietnam.

Expect tantrums galore as the Lee Enfield makes a return and a generation of kids discover they are not as 'leet' as they thought without wall jumping and frikkin laser beams.

While it looks good, I can't help thinking that just doing a shinier re-run of the normandy assault in the usual 'on rails' mode will not be as exciting as the original having been there, done that.

The reveal seems to have come and gone with little fanfare. The reports certainly make it sound like a more interesting take on COD than has been managed since Black Ops 2 concluded, but ultimately it does sound like a rehash of the old games. I suppose there isn't a lot they can say to generate interest in a new WW2 game as it doesn't seem all that long ago since WaW, and the COD name since then has been degraded by a number of dodgy titles (MW2 and 3, Ghosts and Infinite Warfare being stinkers). We'll just have to see what it's like when it comes out.

I don't expect them to mess with MP too much, other than to strip out the rubbish - crap neon gun skins, jet packs, double jumping etc. It'll likely be a more grounded experience with all the trimmings as usual. I'm sure Sledgehammer will find something to put in a microtransaction loot drop...

Single player could be refreshed though. The most bombastic thing in the reveal is that health won't regenerate. Perhaps veteran mode will be hard again?

Nice cut scenes, wonder what it will look like on an actual PC.
I'm sure that it will be a big seller, not sure if i want to get it over something like Day of Infamy, or Battalion 44

Meh. Battlefield has moved the game on. COD will have to be unbelievably spectacular to get me back into the series.

I wonder if they will still be using the same old maps, but with a slightly different coat of paint.

I mainly play for the Multi player and I have said for years, why don't they just have a pay monthly service of say 5 quid which is the cost of a new game a year and just run it online with new maps every quarter.

I havn't played the story since I got half way through Ghosts as it is all about online for me.

Every map they have ever done online with the choice of classic, or double jumping maps. I would subscribe as I like the older maps. I have read online that China has exactly this as the games campaigns where banned over there for being too graphic.
