Just stumbled accross this story on bbc

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-39706205

In a nutshell some chap hangs his baby daughter then takes his own life live on Facebook.

Not a lot of stories get to me but this appalling story stopped me in my tracks. Truely awful stuff frown

Live streaming gang rape, murdering strangers and now killing your daughter and yourself. What kind of people watch facebook live streams?

It is of course tragic and despicable and I'm not a fan of the way this kind of thing is given media coverage, but I do think that overall the positives outweigh the negatives.

Yeah sorry I could have worded that a lot better.

Positives of stuff like live streaming. Not my personal cup of tea but it's a good thing when used correctly IMO.

Agreed and it's really taken off over the last few years. But now it's on a popular platform, the amount of stories like this are bound to go up.

I've watched some pretty grim stuff on the internet and fairly desensitised but this is something that even i would turn off.

Exactly,I usually seek out the video just to see it but on this occasion I did not want to see that

Exactly, i usually seek out the video in question just to see what the fuss is about but this steps over the line of what is watchable, especially as a dad of 2. Sickening even to think about it.

The faces of death video was a good shout, that terrible half fake VHS made the rounds when i was a young'en.

There is an odd ghoulish draw to awful videos, yet there is something much darker to the recent live streamed stuff.

A while ago there was a CCTV video of a guy in China. He had severe mental issues and he was walking down the street when he suddenly flips out and starts attacking a toddler. I mean really really violent towards the child who appears to be nothing to do with him. The child is at best unconscious, at worst, well.....

I reported it via Facebooks link.

This was the reply (ive gone back and checked)

Thanks for letting us know about this. We've reviewed the video, and although it doesn't go against any of our specific Community Standards, you did the right thing by letting us know about it. We understand that it may still be offensive or distasteful to you, so we want to help you see less of things such as this in the future.
The video is still online.
The Poster is still active, and lists "Project Manager at Facebook" based in Saudi (allegedly)

Even if FB sank tomorrow, replacement platforms would rise to replace it. Indeed, they already exist. This is the 21st century and the technology exists for people to film and transmit whatever they want.

The choice is down to you to ignore it or not.

That is as foolish as saying "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear"!

Christ, I'm just glad I use it to post interesting car videos / "like" funny posts / play poker

Why do you say that?

I have managed to avoid looking at nasty videos such as this for years.

Are you worried that you can't control the urge to watch these things. If you can't, I would suggest you have a problem.

The main concern I would have is that children might see such stuff and I admit that is a problem. How it can be solved is anybody's guess because even if a video platform website eventually stamps down on these types of videos, another one will start up somewhere else.

And even conscientious video platform sites (if there are any) struggle to keep up and monitor the thousands of videos that are uploaded every day.

As I said, the genie is out of the bottle on this one and it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to stop it.
