So Aussie Christians are getting annoyed by gay couples being married in consulate grounds. Do any other western countries still ban marriage?

Misleading title.

The UK is simply providing a service to its citizens to get married in the eyes of the UK Government.

It's no different from a UK citizen getting married to a non-UK citizen in Stoke on Trent.

It's just shameful that the marriage isn't recognised under Australian law.

Presumably because Australian Law does not recognise marriage between same sex couples - just like Northern Ireland (and nobody mention cakes).

Logic could tell you why... but to put it into words: because I'm in favour of two adults of any gender being able to enter into marriage.

Whatever floats your boat. It's a matter for the Australian people and it's still under discussion.

Didn't you know? The BBC has an AGENDA!

Quite what that agenda is and what their overall aims and biases are depend on who you ask however, as the claims vary wildly from it being a British equivalent of Pravda to the lovechild of Eugene Terre'blance and Jean-Marie LePen

Do all British embassies do this? Do they offer this service in Saudi Arabia?

Embassies practice diplomacy - so I would expect that they would behave diplomatically in a way to suit each specific location.

Indeed

Two people want to get married, why anyone else would want to interfere is beyond me

What is marriage, if it isn't state or religion based interference in two, or potentially more, people's desire to live together?

The vast majority of Australian people either don't care and will support it because it has zero impact on their lives or support it.

A small minority don't.

It's not under discussion. The discussion has been squashed because the current government has pandered to the right wing "Christian" voter base in order to secure a preference deal.

Not sure how many embassies and consulates offer this, but I heard the report on the Today programme and it's not unique to our consulate in Australia.

It's moot in places like Saudi where just being gay is illegal.
