It's on tomorrow and Thursday too...

It's going to be another hard watch.

I posted this on another thread.......

BBC1 tonight 9pm a drama starting which should be powerful viewing - 'Three Girls'.
It deals with the horrific grooming and exploitation of girls in the Rochdale area between 2008 -2012, made with the full co-operation of the girls the story centres on it will no doubt be a hard watch.
There are girls and in some cases boys all over the country who have been through experiences such as these and very often the kids will spend time in residential care and fostering.
Its incredible and heart-wrenching to think what some kids have to go through.

If it's tough to watch just think for a second how much harder the reality is, really very very frightening.

I found that I couldn't watch little boy blue either its just to close to home and I think a documentary rather than a Drama is more in keeping.

Smiler.

I think turning off is a fairly common response.

It beggars belief that people like those responsible can go about behaving like that with such apparent impunity.

Maxine Peake & the woman she portrays were on R4 earlier, seemed incredible what they were saying.

I wonder if any long term good will come from this sorry episode, aside from the perps being jailed, rather a change in attitudes.

Not in this case, it's a true story.

Every town has issues with child sex abuse.

It's been swept under the carpet for years.

I'm from Rochdale and this is not news to me at all; it's always been known what they're like with young girls (I've known since I was a kid and I'm 49 now) - not to mention other small matters like drug dealing and a lax attitude to driving legally/insurance/crash for cash and lots more. However if you say this in front of anyone who has no experience of a place with a similar population (eg Bradford, Oldham etc) then they get all righteous and accuse you of being one step away from being Hitler. Absolutely clueless.

I and almost all my friends are from affluent, middle class families and every single female I know has suffered harrassment from them - almost always taxi drivers. It's not just vulnerable girls, it's just that they're more likely to get what they're after off them.

My middle sister once had a gang of Pakistani lads catcalling her "get yer tits out" "white slag" etc as she walked past. She told them to "fk off". They beat her up so badly she got her arm broken. Anyone care to guess to what level this was investigated?

They're a bunch of hypocrites too - my best female friend (except Mrs DS) is a Pakistani, and very often taxi drivers start having a go at her for being out at night with me (not in English, I might add, if I'm still in the taxi).

Despite what a lot of people seem to think Rochdale is actually a fantastic place with some really lovely residential areas, but I know more and more people who are leaving - and to be honest it'll be the reason why we move away eventually. I don't need to tell you why, do I?

Remarkable drama - more so than the Shannon Matthews one, probs due to the incredibly dirty and unpleasant true story behind it (although both shine a light into a World many of us would never see otherwise).

Cannot empathise with any group of blokes who would pay money to abuse young girls that way...simply cannot understand it. What's the attraction?

And fair play to the Asian actors taking on those roles...

Credit too to 'Dennis Pennis' for handling the Dad part without overdoing it. Or perhaps credit should go to the director? Either way, it's a good production.

they need to show this in schools in the areas to prevent it happening again, along with social services and all left wing apologists

Very disturbing watching this, the way certain authorities turn a blind eye because were gripped in the age of PC. Ironic that the BBC showed this drama, even when the reporting of it by the Beeb at the time carried no clue as to who was doing it, until they showed the images of the men in question.

Anyone who abuses a child whatever their race or religion should get the same treatment. Why is it that they cannot mention Asian men on the news when reporting this behaviour.

I was talking to a social worker a couple of years ago, when the story of Rotherham broke, she said it was the tip of the iceberg, this is happening in every major city in the UK, and has been for years.

Is it not true that child exploitation wasn't really taken very seriously until relatively recently?

All swept under the carpet and excuses made whether it be teachers, sports coaches, priests or Asian drug dealers and taxi drivers?

It's been rife in care homes for years.
And, according to people like Stephen Fry, in private schools across the land.

I have no idea why anyone would do what's been happening.

Does anyone have any figures as to the split of sex crimes based on ethnicity and/socio economic group?

I can't find any.
