It's that time again - a house alarm post! hehe

I want a wireless house alarm with pet friendly PIR's. We have a cat who basically owns the house and goes where she pleases, so not having the alarm going off every 5 minutes would be preferred biggrin

What is out there that is decent? Budget is probably a couple of hundred quid.

Thanks.

Watching with interest as I'll be investing soon.
My old wireless alarm doesn't have pet friendly sensors and not set off by our terrier, he doesn't climb the curtains however.

I'm thinking of magnetic sensors on all entry points, a ding dong chime on the front door, and probably only 3 PIRs. one on the landing, one in the hall and one in the garage utility, any real need to have them all over the place

Does anyone actually do anything when they hear a house alarm going off these days?

Yeah, chuck a brick at it!

Actually, I will check my neighbors house if I know they are away.

Just another potential deterrent. Besides, if I or my wife are in the house and it goes off, then at least we know there may be someone in the house etc.

Thieves will take the easiest route, one house with, one without, which do you burgle?
If an alarm goes off it attracts my attention, next door I investigate, others I may notice toerags with swag bags.
If for some reason your house is a target, you're fked.

I got a MiGuard AW1 thing - cheap cheerful and depending on where you place it could be disabled in about 0.2 seconds by any decent tea leaf... hehe

That being said, place the control unit well and get a secondary keypad, it's an OK system that notifies you when something happens.

I haven't bothered fitting the external bell box, the internal siren should scare any chavs off (which our area is riddled with), and any pro's would be disappointed with what we have on offer anyway smile.

Either of our cats have not tripped the sensors, easy to install and set up. Have had it a year now.

I've recently had a Wireless House Alarm fitted, It's pet friendly which is great has i have a cat.
The system i had installed is a Pyronix Enforcer system. I have the main box which is wired to mains power in the hall, and have 5 Cat friendly PIR's, 2 door contact sensors, 1 external alarm box, and 2 keyfobs.

I can also log into an App on my phone to arm/disarm, check status of sensors, i also get a loud notification continuously going on my phone if it set off.

I've had the alarm fitted for approx 2 months now, had no false alarms set of by the cat, the range is good, 1 of the sensors is far away in a detached double garage.

I paid £749 all in fitted

I have a Risco - and it was hugely troublesome, until the installer (under protest - I nearly had to threaten legal action) changed the central unit for a new one. Now works perfectly: no false alarms etc. We dog-sit for friends routinely, and the pet sensors work well. As in they don't set off alarms when the dog wanders around the kitchen.

Most kits inc a couple of PIRs and a magnetic switch, is it worth upping the magnetic switches to cover front/back/patio doors? Then using the PIRs to cover say hall and landing?

If access is awkward to 1st floor windows is it worth covering these at all?
If a front door is very secure is it worth having an magnetic switch on this, just covering the more vulnerable back of the house?

I'm thinking these are only a deterrent to casual housebreakers rather than hardened pros, is a box on the wall enough?
