Why change system that seems to be working? Operation Temperer has delivered nearly 5,000 extra armed personnel to stand guard at sensitive locations, leaving proper coppers free to go and Police. All at more or less no cost to the taxpayer.
Why would we want to pay for an additional 5,000 personnel all year round?

To get this back on track Why would we want to pay for an additional 5,000 personnel all year round?

There are no 'extra' Officers and it's costing a great deal. The 'extra' has magically appeared by cancelling every Officers days off and extending shifts to 12-15 hours. It's completely unsustainable. Night shifts on Tuesday were extended to 10am and Officers had to be back at 5pm. 7hrs to travel both ways, eat and sleep.
Do you think the IPCC will consider fatigue following a shooting. Not a chance.
The troops have been deployed because the Police no longer have the capacity or reserve. . When May cut 20000 Officers she said "it's not about numbers". Odd how after every incident the solution is extra Officers on the street.
It was always the case though that when extra officers were needed (which presumably means on the ground rather than additional to the service) it was achieved by cancelling rest days and extending tours of duty. And I was happy to take advantage of it through the miners strike, various fire brigade strikes, prison officers strikes and a whole host more.
I recall my force becoming alarmed that some sgts were making more than C/Supts of the day because of the amount of overtime they were working during Op Overspill which, IIRC, went on for over a year.
Short term need = throw money at it. Always been the way.

It's been known as SA 80 by people like yourself who are un-educated.. Do not try to tell me I am pedantic when it is you who are wrong.
Go and look at the picture of the 'SAS' guy holding a L119A1.
Now tell me that 5.56 x 45mm NATO should not be used on the streets.
Rather a pyrrhic victory when achieving it makes you look, yet again the biggest gimp on the forum - no?Go and look at the picture of the 'SAS' guy holding a L119A1.

Bore off.
I wonder if the 5.56mm rifles are loaded with ball ammunition or something else less likely to go through multiple people. AFAIK hollow points etc are only illegal for use in military conflict, but can be used by police forces etc.
Also wonder if the Army lads have different/more strict ROE than the police.

Everytime I see her screen name there's swearing and arguments.
By far the weirdest and rudest poster on here.
I think that she is just fed up with the (many) people on here who believe themselves 'experts' and spout incorrect bullst! It's rare that she is the first to launch an attack!By far the weirdest and rudest poster on here.

A round from an sa80 could do a lot of unintentional damage after passing through or just missing a target.
What do you mean by "an SA 80"?SA 80 is a family of weapons.
Hint: It stands for SMALL ARMS 1980.
Given that there are images of people carrying the L119A1 (basically a Canadian cut down version of the AR-15) which uses the same 5.56 x 45 mm NATO round, your point is what exactly?

Ball probably. Can't see them kitting out everybody with fancy ammo! British Army : tight as fk!! Used to struggle to get a new pair of socks out of our lot Also wonder if the Army lads have different/more strict ROE than the police.
Besides, the chances of spotting a sweaty suicide bomber before he hits the snooze button or even getting a shot off and actually hitting him are slim as fk!
