Four countries cut links with Qatar
Discussion
Given that the Americans have 10k U.S. servicemen permanently stationed at an air base in Qatar I'm surprised they've taken such a partisan stance here. The Qataris also buy billions of dollars of American arms. It appears the Americans are quite happy to deepen their involvement in this wider Shiite-Sunni conflict which will no doubt please Saudi Arabia (and Israel to a certain extent).

I think Trump has probably been told to STFU tweeting by his advisors after his "working as intended" tweet gaffe in response to Saudi saying they were cutting ties. I reckon he's probably been told to keep his beak out and let them fight it out between themselves, hopefully without shots being fired. If shots get fired then it's going to be awkward.. Well this is one way to get the US back on side.
"Washington and Doha have signed an agreement for the purchase of F-15 fighter jets with an initial cost of $12bn, as US President Donald Trump's administration attempts to navigate an ongoing diplomatic crisis in the Gulf."

Let's hope it isn't.
Can't see Qatar agreeing to that lot, especially the Turkish base and the audits.
Then again, how many and which demands are really being sought.
All I hope is that we stay out of it.Can't see Qatar agreeing to that lot, especially the Turkish base and the audits.

Demanding that a news channel is closed down seems frankly ridiculous - the fact that we aren't in full voice condemning them shows how they have us by the short and curlies.

What makes that particular mouthpiece worse than, say, Fox News
My main issue with them was giving air to the "Charlie Hebdo is racist" claptrap post-terror attack in Paris. Also they had an offshoot called AJ+ which was the kind of historical revisionism/Identity politics videos that have lead to a rotting of the collective Western mind. Just my 2p.saaby93 said:
Can someone set out in a few lines what this is about

My personal opinion is that it is really about this, the article is from 2014.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-402058...

I posted in the other thread regarding the demise of the petro-dollar, I think this is a chess move by the Saudi's and the U.S to try and influence Qatar's foreign policy away from Iran and China in order to maintain the petro-dollar status-quo.
Without the petro-dollar, the U.S is basically bankrupt.
IMO it has little to do with terrorism although, it is pretty clear that in the eyes of the Saudi's and UAE that the Qatari's needed taking down a peg or two.

Why should we condemn them? It's got nothing to do with us and we should keep our noses out, we have enough to deal with here.
