Huge Fire In Block Of Flats

Camden tenants getting pissed off at being evacuated, some of them refusing to leave and saying they were threatened with the police. That's gone well then.
I can't see why they would force people out - once people have been told, and presumably advised to run like the clappers if there's a fire and signed a bit of paper 'rec'd & understood', then their duties of care have been discharged I'd have thought.Mojooo said:
Nonsense. It would take a brave politician to ignore the Fire Service when they have said there is NO chance they could guarantee residents safety - not even having people sat outside the tower.
As I said earlier the Fire Service as far as I know have never said theyre able to guarantee anyone's safety - it's a question of risk.If at the end of the day something happens outside what youve allowed for, it happens
so nothing new

I heard the leader of Camden say they asked the FS if they could try alternatives and the FS said they cannot guarantee safety and no one can stay in the building -end of - it would be a brave person who directly ignores the FS advice. If at the end of the day something happens outside what youve allowed for, it happens

i think it is overzealous - but probably more in the part of the FS than the council.

They obviously got the memo"Burn your property out and you'll be give a place in a £2bn development guaranteed"
What do you do with someone who has no family and friends, in a flat with all mod cons ( nice microwave) young baby and what looks like no-one else in support?

I wonder how many elderly or ill people have died from being turfed out of their flats at 2am....
There was a report on LBC about an elderly lady from the Camden block who was refused entry to the hotel that the council had booked because she had a dog. So she ended up sleeping on a chair at the sports centre.Puggit said:
Worth noting that the hospital that accused the Sun of pretending to be a relative of a Grenfell victim retracted the story and police are not investigating.
Tbh, I wasn't aware, nor was I commenting on that particular storyThe sun are guilty of enough ste, without anyone having to invent any more.

Grenfell Tower survivors now being told to move out of the hotel they were put up in, but not told where they were going to. Just to call the council and ask.

The leader of Camden Council was on C4 News.
She's been in the job a month and from what I've seen and heard of her so far seem to be doing a good job in difficult circumstances.
You can't win because one minute you're getting grief because you can't home a dog with 2 hours notice but make a different decision and god forbid there's a fire and it's why didn't you do anything and why have 80 people died on your watch.

Not ideal (the short notice) but once they did call the number they were all given alternative accommodation.https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/24/gr...

The letter, which was subsequently shared on social media, tells families to contact the council’s accommodation team as a matter of urgency and provides a phone number.
A council spokesman said: “The Holiday Inn Gloucester Road was unable to continue accommodating 30 households due to previous bookings and we are deeply sorry for the manner in which the families had been informed of the need to move them.”
The people concerned were reportedly staying in 20 rooms at the Kensington hotel and the council said those who had to leave had been offered alternative hotels in central London.
