We had a drunk tnt light a charcoal BBQ on a balcony

Trying to bake potatoes. He was drunk and poor, so only source of cooking

Fell asleep and naturally a fire developed. No loss of life etc though, thank goodness.

So how do you suggest that everyone is allowed a garden? We have flats because to have enough houses with gardens in cities is just not possible.

Not sure that is true. Terraced houses offer better population density than high rise flats. Adding a back garden would still match or beat a high rise. (regs mean that a block of flats has a big surrounding area with no buildings). This was a big mistake made in the 60's, and is still being made.

Tabloids are talking about having to evacuate up to 14,000 people, and caling for a state of emergency, where on earth can you rehouse 14,000 people, think it's Camden council have shelled out £500,000 for ONE night for accommodation,

Money isnt a problem, just cut foreign aid and be done with it.

Really? There are over 50 flats in my low-rise block, I'm really not sure that they could get 50 similarly sized houses onto the plot. Perhaps I'm mistaken but there isn't even enough land around us to give one parking space to each flat before you're into the next block's grounds.

That may be so but why? If you look in London there are lots of jobs, yes many minimum wage but we all had to start somewhere. That is what I find so sad is that too many see being unemployed as better than working and a system that allows it.

The cap on benefits was challenged by single women with children. They got some idiot to agree that £23k is not enough to have a home and one kid, yet so many do that on less when working, how can that be.

But that does not excuse idiotic actions that but lives at risk.

Just watched the news and they showed the aluminium panel being removed on a tower, could they not just remove some of it ,say a ring every second floor as a fire break and replace it with fireproof covering as a temporary measure?

Erm, no.

Go to all the trouble of having a worksite, tons of scaffolding and only do half a job. Don't think so.

The big problem is what are they going to replace it all with and will anything be totally fire proof? The added issue is so many have been wound up about being trapped, so they need to somehow install more means of escape as well.

Cost I would imagine, and it is deemed unsuitable so it all has to come off.

Spaximus, I'm not suggesting for one minute that the Poteen scenario actually happened, just pointing out how easily, relatively, it is to obtain cheap, lethal drink., and most Nations will have their own versions.
And you are correct, it does not excuse idiotic actions.

Obviously they will need scaffolding for higher up, maybe cherry pickers to get something to be seen being done, or getting stuff off for testing.

Don't need to be poor to do this. Guessing higher up the food chain they get high on the white stuff and still manage to do this.

Yes, fk that scarey. Odd that they seem to go much higher than fire tender turntables.
