People drive about on bald tyres every day, and can make many journeys without incident. Despite that, I would still stop using my car immediately if I discovered my tyres were bald.
I certainly wouldn't be happy living in a block that wasn't stong enough to survive a gas blast. Only this morning a house that has stood without incident for C. 60 years in my hometown has been blown sky high...

Any building will take a big hit with a gas explosion but my feelings are that every council and councillor is now so afraid of any sort of incident that they are knee jerk reacting all over the place.I certainly wouldn't be happy living in a block that wasn't stong enough to survive a gas blast. What will the end be, no more high rise for social housing, if so where will they all go? There is already a massive shortage so adding to it for an incident so unlikely now.
We can make any multiple occupancy building "safe" from fire, people just don't want to live in a steel box, look at one or pay for the extra cost.

After that they ran around putting extra fire exits in nearly every building they're responsible for; take a look at any social housing block in Southwark and they invariably now have a fire escape tagged on to the roof or side.
So how come they didn't find this latest problem when they did all the post-Lakanal surveying and assessing, or what's changed about the rules now, to make these latest buildings a problem now.

Southwark Council previously had this 2009 tower block fire on their hands.

I'd put money on the post-Lakanal assessors not being asked to look at the stability of the building structure. It seems that they have finally realised that having gaping cracks in the concrete is not conducive to strength, should there ever be a gas explosion.https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/feb/24/so...

The head of the British Red Cross has admitted the charity struggled with the Grenfell disaster because its workforce is too white. Mike Adamson, the charity’s chief executive, said: “There is a risk that in a very diverse community like Grenfell, an organisation with the words ‘British’ and ‘Cross’ in its title is confused with a Christian establishment organisation.”

Have you actually read it, I Can't see anybody refusing, but as most people on PH love to jump to their own conclusions why not just make up what happened to fit your views?Edited by The Spruce goose on Monday 11th September 14:37
