Though I am a little mixed on if people can fully fund treatment themselves - the problem in this case being the "quality of life angle".
I'm also in two minds -- on the one hand if they're prepared to pay, why not let him go to the US? On the other hand the doctors currently looking after him have a duty of care and have taken the Hippocratic Oath. I suspect the only winner out of the former option will be the US doctors charging for the treatment.

Decision expected tomorrow, not today. Most of the media, all of Twitter, and those protesting forget that it was GOSH who instigated this latest hearing, not the parents (directly).

This will run for a long time. Either way, the claims of "if only" (quicker, sooner, blah, blah) will start.

One of the things I don't get is that the Columbia doctor was consulted before and he said that he didn't realize "how far gone" Charlie was. What is the new evidence?
IIRC he hadn't actually seen Charlie's notes at the time he initially offered to become involved.

If they don't like the answer, where will they storm out of next?

Wonder how much time they are actually spending with their dying son during all this?

Live update for today's court session...

http://news.sky.com/story/live-judge-considers-cha...

It's what best for Charlie that's the most important. One would hope that at least the doctors are in agreement on a way forward...

Case is over. Parents have withdrawn their request to take him to the US.

Argument is they have run "out of time" so the story may run but right now thoughts are with them to get his family through the next few days.

Which means they have finally accepted Charlie's fate.

It does seem like the medical nuances have finally been accepted by the parents. Shame it took so long but I'd suspect that denial is always going to be a large obstacle to overcome.

The rentamob crowd pictured above are now showing their ignorance by chanting "Shame on GOSH". Idiots.

I wonder why they changed their mind.

Interestingly enough, their spokesman Alasdair Seton-Marsden (failed UKIP candidate for Chelsea & Fulham) was condemning the behaviour of those protesting at the hospital on July 14th, saying the family abhor violence.

After a "bad" week in court, and with the possibility of more news going against them on Tuesday, all of a sudden it's a "cynical ploy" from the hospital.

IMO, getting this slimy, smarmy prick involved was one bad move from the family. You wonder how much is coming from the parents mouths and how much is actually his idea.
Just to clear up, Charlie's family put out a statement distancing themselves from Alasdair.

Sounds like they are still playing the blame game to me:

Armstrong: worthy of a Greek tragedy that they must withdraw now. Window of opportunity for treatment has been lost

Now the lawyer is saying things like "due to the delay" and "window of opportunity has been lost". This one is going to run on.

Although this bunch - https://www.facebook.com/groups/421102671579633/ - are the more extreme bunch, coming up with all sorts of conspiracy theories and not understanding the structure of our judicial system. if Breadvan ever looks there, he might be most upset with barristers being described as paralegals!

It can be very hard for the parents to accept it, my nephew was born starved of oxygen and was kept on life support, tests showed almost zero output and his mother was told it would be kinder to switch his machine off, she wouldn't let them and was convinced they were lying etc.

It took the whole family hours to convince her.
