Robert Peston job ad - whites need not apply

This is a genuinely open question - are there other routes into the profession and (perhaps) evidence that lots of white people are already taking advantage of those routes?
I don't know but would suspect that any such routes are equally open to non-whites, especially in light of Peston's ad.Countdown said:

Should the original article have said;
"We actively encourage applicants from a BAME background" ?
They are sending the message without taking any stance on race.
Absolutely, I am all in favour of encouraging all applicants. Assisting through education etc."We actively encourage applicants from a BAME background" ?
They are sending the message without taking any stance on race.
Holding someones skin colour against them in a job application is just wrong.

There is a difference between assessing candidates some of whom had better starts in life and telling the best candidate 'sorry mate you are the wrong colour' one can be addressed, the other is racism.
However you dress it up you are suggesting giving an advantage to one demographic over another “because they had a better start in life”. That’s the definition of positive discrimination. And how would you assess which demographic had had the “better start in life”?
Right at the top of the tree we have politicians who are 'allowed' to employ their wives and children in non jobs which are sometimes not even advertised.
We have 'select' jobs which are almost impossible to attain unless you come from the right background, we have an unfair playing field which needs repair.
There are a lot more disaffected impoverished white citizens in this country than there are privilidged ones.
If we as a society are to address these issues then there cannot be any place for race in the judgement of candidates, how can I criticise a white racist if I tolerate a job description only allowing non white applicants?

Medicine?
At what level of medicine?http://careers.bmj.com/careers/advice/Ethnic_diver...
I disagree - doesn't this link definitively show an under-representation of white Doctors (Board level excepted)?
Google suggests the UK is 87% "White or White British"
59% of all Doctors are white
66% of UK national Doctors are white
68% of UK national Consultants are white
Seems to me that the white demographic is definitely under-represented here.
This is what equality looks like. Equal opportunity, not equal representation.
