Need to replace my fence panels, the current featheredge panels I put up 24 years ago have finally reached the end of their days.

I'm in Kent and fence suppliers round here seem to want to charge an arm and a leg for panels that are remotely built to last.

I came across this website that does a lap panel using 16mm thick boards for £26 for a 6ft x 5ft panel

http://www.the-sawmill.co.uk/shop/fencing/heavy-du...

Trouble is, is that they are in Yorkshire and unsurprisingly don't deliver to Kent. They say each panel weighs 30kg and I need 10 so courier cost would be hefty I guess.

Can't seem to get close to cost/thickness of panel round here. Anybody got any recommendations for fence suppliers in the south east that are close enough to deliver to Kent (Medway) and can compete with cost/panel construction of the above.

Cheers, John

I made the fence panels all those years ago but back then it was financially worthwhile as the featheredge was cheap, now it's expensive relative to just buying a completed panel.

Why use panels? If the posts are ok just use some rails and feather board and build your own fence. Much more resilient to the weather.

Depending on where you are in Kent I've used https://www.challengefencing.com/ and the quality has been leagues ahead of the crap you get from places like Wickes plus you can get kerbside delivery for about £10. Prices seem good to me and if your posts are ok new featheredge and gravel boards would seem the way to go.

I think it cost me around £50 for a 2900x1600 panel including all hardware for new arris rails, featheredge and gravel board and didn't take long to do. Proper, hand built fences are actually quite a nice thing to do yourself if you like making stuff.

I pay 89p for a decent 1.8m feather edge board, 125mm width too. So in rough terms with 3x2 arris rails that's about 12 quid a meter or about 20 quid a "panel" and it's many times stronger than the guff they sell in the sheds.

I am in West Yorkshire though so stuff does seem to be a bit cheaper up here.

You could try Swan Timber in Crowborough. Not used them recently as had no need too but the panels I have had have been good quality and reasonably priced. Do have the advantage of being on the doorstep so no delivery. However worth giving them a call.

Many thanks chaps. Challenge fencing is coming out a bit toppy but Orchard look pretty reasonable, even their prices for feather edge and arris rails are pretty cheap. Not as thick as the Yorkshire stuff but certainly worth a look thumbup

Everythings pretty thick up here scratchchin

Shame though, got some of the sawmill panels sat outside and they're built like a barn door.
