This, one of the few places tou can utalise a cars accelleration from a standstill smile

I dont mind paying when in the car, ~£6 is not that bad.

I really dont get people who would rather go via Gloucester rather than pay it....

However i really detest the fact in my van i have to pay twice as much as a range rover that weights just as much!!

They could do the same with the corresponding bit of the M6... a Birbergring!

No relief road around Newport, the traffic could be backing up a bit further. Interesting times, hope they finish the dualling around the heads of the valleys soon. Think I will be using a different way into wales when I can.

We sold our house ten minutes from the crossing just under the years ago. All my friends in the area are rubbing their hands at the potential house price increase. Ah well!
You think it will make that much difference?
Sadly yes. Friend's relative is a local EA and they are already seeing rises as this has been talked about locally for a while.

What it will mean is Chepstow prices gaining parity with some North Bristol prices as it's a very easy commute into Aztec West over the old bridge. Quicker than from in Bristol 5 miles around the ring road actually. There'll also be a ripple effect further west towards Newport in the villages around Magor etc.

Surely removing the M6 toll will remove the beneft of using it?
Yes, but then it will remove the resistance for those who do not currently use it - freight and the motoring masses - thereby adding instantly to capacity in the region and removing a huge burden from the M6.

It's not a win-win scenario, but it's probably the best compromise. Next up they should be adding extra lanes to the M42 north of the M6 and also upgrading/by-passing the A34 from Stoke to Birmingham. The UK desperately needs road infrastructure investment to increase economic efficiency.
They should also look again at the West Mids Western orbital - going from M5 J4 around to the M54/M6 junction

I've seen several articles say the same thing. People are buying houses already to commute into Bristol with the expectation that the toll was going to be drastically reduced or even scrapped.

Just need them to stop bickering about the Newport bypass now and the thing built.

My first thought on hearing the news was to check out nice properties around Chepstow, Caldicot etc - with Bristol being over valued there will be plenty who will now look across the bridge! Good news!

According to an estate agent friend in the Forest nearly a third of recent enquiries have come from people living in Bristol!

It's pretty much all they have been talking about on BBC Gloucestershire and there are already some great soundbites from locals in Coleford way who don't want all these Bristolians buying all their houses. Lots of youngsters in the area are already panicking as prices are set to jump making them too expensive for those who work in the Forest of Dean area where wages aren't exactly top draw.

hehe That used to be me (AmD S4), when it first opened the bare minimum was 90. Drove it for the first time in 10 years last month and felt very conspicuous doing 90. frown

It is amazing how UK house prices spike so fast when new or better infrastructure for a local area gets on the horizon.

Know someone who lives near a big empty field that has a small train station planned for faster links to London, but it will not be passenger-ready until at least 2019 or 2020... however, nearby house prices have already soared 50-100% in the past ~3 years since the plan was 99% approved by authorities to overcome the final hurdles, circa 2014.

Distributor from the Coldra, past Spytty and out by Tredegar Park always works for me when the tunnels are rammed.

Be careful. It's easy to exceed the heavily monitored 50 limit well before the NSL signs if you've got a reasonably powerful car wink

Very good point!!

That and the Newport tunnel are often the highlights of any journey down the M4 into Wales.

That's true. I commute every morning from the Warmley area into Aztec West and that's a 30-minute journey at best, usually somewhere between 40-45 minutes. I could get well into South Wales in that time....

Thought speed limits weren't enforced on the M6 toll.

When the A1M up to Peterborough was completed a guy I knew (who admittedly had rep for making st up) used to say you could go a lot quicker on it without being done because the govt were using it to trial raising motorway speed limits.

I generally find the M40 is where everyone seems to ignore any speed limits, anyone else?

Have Hs1 route prices peaked yet?

CrossRail 2 is due to be given the go ahead in 2020, expect affected Estate Agents to be partying if/when that happens.
