Will there really be another 5 or six weeks of this? It's already been simmering for months.

Is the point to distract the great British monarchist and patriot from the traditional summer riot?
I wouldn't have had them down as the likely culprits and it's more likely to drive everyone else nuts.

I find it nauseating, every news channel repeatedly pressing home the poor two lads who were left without their mother.

FFS, you'd think they are the ONLY two people ever to lose their mother in the whole world! They have access to the best psychiatric treatment and cancelling, unlimited funds, no worry about EVER being poor or unemployed, yet they seem to be more important than anybody else who has lost a fking parent!

I see some people are a bit grumpy this morning.

Just ignore it.

People like soap operas and the royal family is, at the very least, reality rather than make-believe, so perhaps an improvement. Diana was a beautiful woman who died early. Her life was a drama. A flawed woman, but then who isn't flawed.

Let people have their vicarious experience of tragedy. Others choose other methods. I read at least one novel a month. I also watch Game of Thrones. Looked at logically, it is rather sad that the stories make me feel sad. Perhaps there are those out there who are 'nauseated' by GoT or the novels I read. If so then I'd suggest that they should not to read the books or watch the series.

I'm no royalist. However I much prefer Madge to, say, president Blair, and Kate to Cherry Booth.

There seems to have been some organised build up to this.

First, the 'We're psychologically damaged' story.

Then, the 'I don't want to be king' story

And recently, the 'we really miss our mum' story.

All nicely timed to lead up to the anniversary. Is there an undercurrent, faintly discerned here, of stirrings within the Royal family?

It's tragic when anyone dies early in most circumstances.

I wasn't suggesting anything other than that these two factors, possibly three, are likely to get people involved.

I saw her on her first official visit. It was to the City of London, Goldsmith's Hall I think, and she was wearing that low cut black dress. She looked absolutely stunning. The wedding was a massive occasion, with Ludgate Hill packed with people. It was a time when people seemed positive and invigorated, so not like now. I was cheered as I crossed the Hill.

When it was announced that she was pregnant I was on duty in Fenchurch Street, in theory to police the crowd. I've never seen a crowd so happy. I was forced to dance with a member of the public.

Such celebrations of public enjoyment seem a long way away nowadays.

Such a loss she was due to see the kids the day after the crash, after being away from them for a month.

But she is not the ONLY mother who has died, FFS.

It will be impossible for any coverage to outshine what there was at the time.

Feel for the guys (who I think will make great leaders of the monarchy) and the family. But the emotional outpourings in '97 were OTT and felt to me unparalleled in this country - we were becoming American/FoxNews, a process which hasn't really abated.

I'd been out the night before and pottered out to get an "acquaintance" breakfast and something to read. Walking into the newsagent the first picture I saw on a front page was Liam or Noel Gallagher's arse on a boat so I instantly just assumed normal news day. Pottered back with a handful of papers, went to sort breakfast only to have the girl come screaming into the kitchen saying "have you not seen this! How can you be so calm about it!!".

Have to admit I was a bit surprised when it finally registered. But didn't see any reason not to be calm about it. The girl ended up going down to Kensington with her mum the night everyone stood out there with candles. Felt more like a pub moment to me.

Yes, I felt the outpourings at the time were unprecedented - people crying in the street, candlelit vigils, the applause for Charles Spencer's speech, the rather undignified flinging of flowers at the hearse. All rather odd.

Even my mum cried, for someone she had never met, never had anything to do with, knew next to nothing about. American dramatics and melodrama really have taken over from the stiff upper lip.

Hard to believe this country still does assassinations to protect the royal honour, but the proof was right there, Diana even said she knew the day would come in a controversial video interview.

And removes the tin foil as in the sort of weather we've been having, it could be unhealthy (and doesn't protect from solar flares or aliens etc either).

Oh, okay, I concede, if only to prevent a 50 page to and fro about the subject.

Her death...and the emergence of social media 10 years later are what turn the general public into group mourning sheep.

Just to evidence the public storm of nonsense I'm just waiting for the facebook profile pic with a "diana" theme.
