It's been a while since Petrol Ted (pbuh) ran this site. Haymarket and Heseltine are no fans of free speech.
Have to say, it's a far cry from a gentle "raise the bar chaps" nudging things back in line quite effectively.

Those get posted by mods, but don't seem to have much effect. Whether it's because mods posts aren't obvious (no indicator in the posts) or other reasons I wouldn't know.

It's because the monomaniacs don't much care.

B'sides, they like getting barred - it gives them something else to bleat about.

Yup.

There's free speech on one hand and there's an obsessive dominating a thread on the other. If that's allowed to happen you get an echo chamber as the moderate voices don't visit any more.

IMO that ruins PH for all.

(ETA: Sorry, not directly related to the OP, but more other posts.)

There are other threads; like at speakers' corner you wander away from the freaks, lunatics and obsessives.

Only very rarely do they get carted off in straitjackets.

Freedom of speech is not absolute in that you are not free say everything you may wish to.

When thoughts and opinions are provided in a more robust medium than hearsay, the evidence is more obvious should there be any transgression of that permitted by the consensual agreement that the populace has made with our parliament and written into law.

Freedom is indivisible; if there are any limits on speech it is no longer free; you may agree with such limitations, that's fine, but it also means that, by definition, speech is not free,

Speech is not free and in fact can be fairly costly depending upon what was said and who heard.

This is more like a pub than speakers' corner, and if someone kept taking over conversations they'd be barred PDQ.

Well half of it is Eric so not as many people as you'd think.

I think most people see that thread as the definition of a circle jerk given the lack of opposing voices, which isn't exactly down to everyone agreeing with the content.

I don't agree with the wielding of the ban hammer, but "your gaff, your rules"; if you aren't paying for a product, then you are the product.

Depends on how much money they put over the bar.

Outside of universities there is no place to properly share your own free speech as it's all privately owned businesses that may do as they wish. They may turn off your account if they don't like it.

The problem now is even universities will shut down those with an unlikeable view point if pressured enough. Activist groups have wised up to it, they only need to mildly suggest a riot and the uni will shut it down on safety concerns.

All those people that think you're not allowed to say what you think, post what you think on here, it may get deleted but at least you will have said what you really think rather than saying you can't say what you think... the floor is yours

It's fairly obvious; but by leaving some essential "plausible deniability" he may evade the ban hammer.
