Yes I read that on the BBC website.

It's not linked to terrorism apparently, but the driver might have mental health issues.

At the moment, being treated as a person with known mental health problems and no terrorist connection. Seems so far to be not dissimilar to the restaurant crash in France recently.

The suspect known to the police. The suspect, placed in custody in Marseille, was identified, and surrendered without resistance. Of French nationality, the man is native of Grenoble and aged 35 years. It is known to the police for theft, narcotics trafficking, and carrying of weapons. According to France 3, he was not known to the intelligence services. He was attending a therapy in a psychiatric facility in Marseille, said the prosecutor at franceinfo.

"There is no element allowing to describe this act as a terrorist act , " said the prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux. "We found him on a mail in connection with a psychiatric clinic and we are oriented more towards this track," he added.

Turun puukottajasta vihjattiin poliisille etukäteen – vaikutti radikalisoituneelta, oli kiinnostunut ääriajattelusta

Google translate:
The Turku stabber was reported to the police in advance - he seemed radicalized, interested in extreme thinking
Sorry, I'm not being clear.

I'm trying to say that some of the lone wolf attacks could be mental illness related (like in Melbourne - he was going on about freemasons and was an ice addict) rather than co ordinated attacks.

Not denying the Islam element or excusing it.

Does that make any more sense?

Just as a complete aside - I was Googling on the NASA website. Some fascinating videos....

It seems so pathetic, so futile, that idiots would be stabbing people and driving vans over toddlers - when some humans are capable of so much.

Exactly what me & Mrs B were talking about just yesterday. What is the point of it all? The IS lot surely must realise that the global caliphate will never happen? How is it possible to brainwash people into believing this religious st?? Its as if certain elements of humanity are hell-bent on self-destruction, & it makes absolutely no sense.

For the perpetrators it's not a question of whether they personally win or lose, it's the taking part that counts.

I'd say they all have a mental illness to do this sort of thing.

And I wonder how many of these are truly "coordinated"? Yes, IS claim responsibility for them. But that suits their agenda. Are they really saying "hit Barcelona at hh:mm/dd/mm/yyyy" or are they simply hitting and hoping with their messages of hatred?

The former suggests it's stoppable. The latter less so and would be far more worrying.

Well they're hardly sane by any reasonable definition. If the "nutters hearing voices" (NHV) present a risk to the themselves or the general public then the NHV to be detained in a secure institution, perhaps indefinitely.
I think that's a little insulting to the people who genuinely suffer from mental illness to be honest. Of the 12 Barcelona suspects there were four sets of brothers, they can't all suffer from mental illness and psychosis that results in hearing voices and seeing things, what are the chances of that? You don't think the fact they had ties to an Imam linked to ISIS may be the connecting factor here?

And you might think they're insane because of their actions but they're from a part of the world where a woman might be stoned because her skirt is too short or a gay couple may be beaten half to death.
The mental health charity "Mind" describes psychosis: https://mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-m... , including reference to voices, visions and delusions.

Perhaps the Barcelona suspects had suffered indoctrination, leading to voices, visions and delusions.

It also makes excuses.

There is no excuse for their actions - unless the thing we can't mention is the driver behind these actions, then we need to address that directly.

And stop making excuses for not dealing with the root cause, whatever that maybe.
You're confusing "excuse" with "sane reason".
