GT4 appreciation thread
Discussion
Inspired by the 997 appreciation thread, would love to have a thread about the GT4, and not about values. A different kind of "appreciation".
Have a lovely GT Silver with buckets. Car arrived same time as my first son so I'm limited to early morning drives and doing solo trips to family across the country. It gets driven regularly and it doesn't seem to have any issues other than speed bumps in London.
I love Porsche engines, very mechanical, in fact this car is very mechanical and makes it impossible to go back to non GT cars. I wish gearing was better in order to access higher revs more often, but that's what the track is for.
My recent discovery is how much fun cold tyres are, and I can't wait for winter and wet roads. You don't need silly speeds to engage with this car, although I wish it was a little harder to drive well. It makes perfect sense to me when you understand it in context of a GT3 - it is an easier, more accessible GT3, rather than a better Cayman.
Couple of pics - will upload the car itself later, but nothing beats driving home at 4am and catching a sunrise. I also think the window shape of the Cayman is beautiful and like the 911, will define the future iterations.

I find you DO need silly speeds to be close to the limits and be engaged, hence why I take My Spyder out more or my R where the limits are less.If I am on it in the GT4 it's 90-125 leptons on B roads, where in the R it's 80-100 leptons for the same feeling.
It is hard to drive well, people just don't drive fast enough and then it's easy! and hence this limit is hard to reach.
the GT4 needs a bit of a hot rod tune imo after a some parts and a good geo of course.
Not slagging the car all new cars have got a bit too good.
I have no idea how people will get to enjoy the new GT3, anything over 250BHP/ton is already not fully usable.
the beast

My first Porsche which i bought in august 2001 was a boxster 2.7 220bhp manual and albeit quite slow in relative terms to some other cars i've owned was the most fun at legalish speeds probably in part due to being my first maybe..!
My current 991.2GTS coupe PDK is a hugely fast car cross country and fun with it until you look at the speedo which invariably is at highly illegal three digit speeds..An unfortunate side effect of a highly capable car no doubt and my soon to arrive GT3 will be even faster which is why i'll be venting my frustration within the safe confines of a track to avoid losing my licence...
I found my GT4 a great road car although still too fast really for our congested roads..

Jeez. Is this going to turn into another Cayman R is better than a GT4 thread already? If I am on it in the GT4 it's 90-125 leptons on B roads, where in the R it's 80-100 leptons for the same feeling.

I agree sometimes less is more....and I think that's definitely the case for a car that's just going to be used on the road. Progress is a great thing but I don't think modern cars need any more performance or any more grip ! why not post a pic and a review then on your GT4 ? rather than get into a slagging match ;-)THIS IS THE 'GT4 APPRECIATION THREAD'!
I have to respond to what people post, as a few posters in this short time have agreed less can be more, you are not into driving and into looks so why not just post a nice pic, this sort of post just derails the thread and now you made me post again lol
as you say
"THIS IS THE 'GT4 APPRECIATION THREAD'! not a slagging match, at least I posted a picture and gave my honest opinion.
I've had mine for almost 2 years now and put about 4K on it. I don't get to drive it that much but when I do, it just reminds me of what a great car and great experience it is to drive it. I drove it out to Whitstable last week and it was great fun when the road opened up (a pain coming back into London via the Blackwall tunnel though, but that's the traffic, not the car). I'm back down in Wales with it next weekend and will really enjoy it in the beacons and on some of my favourite valleys roads.
This months Top Gear has an a series of articles about top 300 cars. Here's what it says about the GT4 in the sports car section:

Donnington a couple of weeks ago - such a brilliant and punches well over it's weight on the circuit. reminds me of my old 964 RS many moons ago. strong cars, that work perfectly well on the road but come alive on the track and wipe the floor with most if driven with confidence. love mine, a keeper.
Had the car since Febuary and put about 4k on it now, biggest outings was with a few friends doing the NC500 in May. The GT4 was the perfect car for it. Here are some snaps:

I have had my GT4 for just over a year now and I cant think of another car I rather have.
My two highlights to date was a very early drive back from wales through the Cotswolds where the car just flowed effortlessly. I enjoyed it so much that on certain bits of road I turned back just to experience them again. Mind you the wife was not please with me getting home so late.
The other was on the Silverstone GP circuit with PEC, on their performance driving course where I really got to experience the limits of the car. The car did not miss a beat, kept up with notably quicker cars on track and then I just drove home.
