You know the situation, its essentially useless but still works and you paid hundreds or even thousands for it, my example, one of these bad boys,

Bought the cheapest one I could find and turns out it worked but was a refurb and I hadnt noticed, was a bit shonky, crap touch screen but it still works.

Other examples,

Collection of Xbox 360s and PS3's. Got the new ones so will prob never return to them
Hard Disks, box full of them from PC that have been scrapped
A draw of mobile phones, would throw but you never know if there is a photo on them or something
Handheld DVD player
A PSP
Various Nintendo DS's and Gambeboys
My old Mitsubishi VCR. paid over £400 (monthly !) back in the late eighties and it was my prized possesion, still works though it didnt account for the Y2K.

I have a Nokia Lumia 920. It's now 5 years old and I use it as a backup. It won't die. The polycarb shell has a couple of minor nicks in it and a bundle of scratches but the screen is still immaculate, the battery still lasts well over a day and it all just works really well. It might just be the best phone I've ever bought.

Abandonware, but what a great concept it was. Still works, still in use every day.

My record deck that I got for my 18th birthday. Still use it with the other separates.

Went out of fashion and back in fashion now, I guess.

Any old tech. I've got an old Vidor radio( circa 1947) I am steeling my self to get working. I love old tech stuff. It takes me back to the old days of my apprenticeship when phones meant a lot of wiring ,connected to a tethered handset. But then, I've got modern days cordless with my old DECT piggy backed on them.

Loads!, due to the motivational force of an impending house move I have been sorting the garage out and have discovered the following:

6 x laptops
2 x desktop
15 x mobiles
1 x Palm pilot
2 x av amps
2 x av pre amps
1 x record deck
2 x dvd players
3 x cd players
1 x DAC
1 x kenwood mask head unit
4 x desk phones
1 x ansamachine
5 x consoles
2 x 5.1 surround sound speakers
32 assorted speakers from B&W floor standers to homemade bookshelf speakers.

Luckily the new pad has plenty of storage space.

It annoyed me so much when they ditched WMC that I wrote an installer for it. Happily using it on Windows 10 now with my MCE remote smile

I kept one back on seven for the same reason. Stuck an HD tuner & a 5.1 setup in it, so I can't see any reason to ditch it until it finally fades into oblivion.

Just gave away my JVC NICAM VCR to a lady in town. She still uses her VCR for films for the grandchildren, and wanted mine as hers "won't keep going forever".

Still got a Marantz SD40 cassette player to move on, plus a Sinclair Spectrum I got 35 years ago (with some games on cassette), two Minidisc Walkmans, three PC Towers and a selection of headphones i never use.

Keeping my NAD turntable that I got 30 years ago. Had to replace the rubber band that drives it, otherwise perfect

You're very kind & thank you but I think this one can stay as it is. It's in an HTPC case to look all pretty in the room & really is only used for music & TV, so kind of immaterial in the sense of the underlying OS, but I appreciate the offer beer
