Afternoon all
Just purchased a new iMac that has 8GB of RAM as standard. I would like to upgrade this and Google throws up hundreds of suppliers.
So what's the thoughts of the Pistonheads collective on the best place to buy RAM from??
Many thanks
Martin

I use Offtek, although MrMemory gets good reviews. For a Mac, I'd say 16GB is a good upgrade.

You may find this page useful in narrowing down memory options (and then buy from wherever you can get a great deal):

First check you can actually upgrade it. Quite a few Macs are now sealed units with no access and/or slots.

I still use Crucial for RAM, not usually the cheapest but never had a bad stick and usually ok price wise.

You can upgrade the 27" iMac, but not the 21".

Check how many slots are used, hopefully you have 2 x 4GB, if you're unlucky they will have fitted 4 x 2GB.

Many thanks for the replies chaps. Much appreciated.
Yep it's a 27 inch iMac with accessible RAM panel. Only two slots used and two free.
Once again, many thanks for the replies
Cheers

http://uk.crucial.com/ is worth checking out, too.

Select your Mac model from the drop down lists and it'll recommend the correct RAM to get.

Or just run their scanner......

I highly rate Crucial - they guarantee their kit will work with your computer.
Good customer service too.

That is good to know, as I plan to get a 27" iMac soon and would rather add to the RAM, than replace what is already in there.

I used Crucial when I upgraded the RAM in my current iMac and was pleased with the service.

Just a note, I'd suggest the 2TB Fusion Drive as an upgrade when you buy. Just as fast as an SSD, with the storage of a HDD.

That is what I'd go for, and why I am going for the 27", rather than replacing my 21", as they don't offer the 2TB Fusion Drive on the smaller model any more.

The 27" is another level to use, you'll appreciate the price difference when you use it.

Have to say i think mine is brilliant. Other than an iPhone and an iPad, its my first real apple computer after years of windows pc's.
The 5K display is amazing. I went for the mid spec with i5 Intel, 1TB fusion drive and the Radeon 575 graphics board. Have to say that RAW images in Lightroom and 1080 HD footage in Premier Pro are dealt with ease.
As much as it pains me to admit it, i bought mine through PC World, they had around £200 off what other retailers were offering.
