Those that live in closed off ethnic ghettos that are very like the old country will take a lot longer to change to the more modest host country family size.
This works for that generation of immigrants, so those that came over in the 60's will have had large families, but their children will now be having smaller families. The problem we face is that we keep bring in new first generation migrants all the time, so the newer immigrants keep the larger family size cycle going where the older generations have slowed.
Germany took in about 1million in 2015, that is an awful lot of new first generation migrants to keep the cycle going.
Cars - are we not paying over the odds for the cars we hankered after in our youth ? Most of these were crap, but we pay over the odds for them to relive our youth. A midlife crisis used to be a Harley or a conservatory now it is a Capri !!

Is this an attempt to use the argument what is culture? The idea that culture and social norms are in constant flux and change. And the perception of them are different to each individual so it doesn't exist so cant be destroyed or protected? The argument, if something cant be exactly defined and quantified it cannot exist?
