Correct, you don't but adapt or die as they say.

Choose not to but don't be surprised if you're looked upon as a dinosaur.

Of course it was better in the 70s and the 80s for that matter.
Better for who?

For the hard of thinking, the BMJ is the British Medical Journal not Black Mans Johnsons.

There is of course the faintest chance that the fans in question know somebody on the inside at the club who has noted that Lukaku has a gigantic appendage.
Only on PH would someone produce a graph to prove a point about knob sizes.
And it's a Bell Curve.
I'm glad to see 6cm is pretty normal, seems my ex was lying.

You seem to be inferring that it was better in the 70s when racism was common place? Is that what you think?
He may or may not be implying something; you would be doing the inferring.

Standards of English were certainly better in the 70s.

I would be horrified and deeply offended if 50,000 people chanted that I had a massive **** !
Give over......I'd be quite chuffed......biggrin
I'd be more disappointed that they thought I was a bellend! Or did I miss the point of the chant...

Dinosaur, or, someone who might just still have an ounce of common sense, the ability to see the context and of course procession of a sense of perspective.
Again, you don’t have to adapt either, who says you do? Is it all the people who are trying hard to find a problem in everything, to find a confrontation and of course to find offence, oh yes, better change to keep them happy as they are sooooo important.
Seems that people these days are making it their mission to meddle in other people’s lives and instead should maybe look at themselves.

It's not a positive stereotype though.

It is racist because it is a myth used in the past to stop white women sleeping with black men. Oh, don't have sexual relations with a black man because his penis is so big it will tear you apart.
Er, I am not sure you know much about women.
If they can pass a baby then a black pudding wont be any problem. Can you imagine one of the snowflakes being at OT in the 70s, I cant remember the player but the Stretford end sang "we saw you get your foot chopped off last night" the day after roots was on TV. The little darlings would have fainted on the spot.
Irrespective of whether the myth was literally true, it was part of a view of black men as being more 'animal' than white men, and that is certainly racist.

So, some of you are offended on behalf of someone ,who so far isn’t offended, about a large multi cultural crowd singing a song that references something you know to be a myth ( well, for now, I’m sure you can dig harder on the internet for some “facts” ).

Winners........

Oh, for those shouting racism and offensive could I just point you to my first question posted earlier..
If his brother sings the song is it racially offensive?

Absolutely this. The myth was spread originally to as part of the demonisation of black men, that they were more animal than human, sexual predictors, and were to be kept away from precious and refined white women.

The fact that it's now seen as a compliment is pretty meaningless. Having a lot of money is a good thing, but if someone says "he's a Jew, he's bound to have loads of money" it's still offensive. Even if the player himself isn't bothered about it, others in the crowd who know the history behind it may not be happy with it.

In 2017, what's the point of it anyway. Surely they can come up with something better. I'm going for:

Romelu Lukaku
He scores a goal a game.
But a decent striker would get 5
If the chances were the same.

Because he's mediocre at best.

If he'd said "Pegasus was a mythical horse with wings that could fly", would you reply saying "I'm not sure you know much about horses?

No a great Great similie

Winged horses don't exist but women do like big cocks and they certainly do exist.

Weather the stereotype is true or racist I have no idea.

You're missing the point. Ikari was correctly explaining the myth, and Ayahuasca was replying as if Ikari believed it to be fact!

I am not offended at all; if you read the posts you quote, they are a discussion about why something which in another context might be regarded a complimentary is actually racist. Not about whether a football chant is offensive.

Whether you're offended or not, I'm not sure how anyone can say it isn't racist. It's perpetuating a myth based on racial stereotyping. Does anyone actually believe the chant started because someone has actually seen his cock and it's genuinely big? I suspect it's because is it because he's a big, powerful, black male.

Surely this can be solved by:

+1

I am doing my level best to stay out of this thread but I laughed out loud at the bell curve comment.

Curious to know what John Barnes et al. have to say on the topic, I think he is one of the best people to give an opinion on this.

He's a boy fromthe 'hood',
But, he's no fking good.
His right foot is limp,
And, he's hung like a shrimp!

Is what they used to chant when I played football.. frown

If that was directed at me, you misunderstood my point which related specifically to Norfolkingclue's post.
I agree with you- the chant is racist, although I, personally, am not offended as it wasn't directed at me. And of course, if it had been, it would have been a lot less offensive as I am white so it would not of been linked to the black man as animal myth.
